People still play this game? I would have thought it was shut down by now.

Horrible game. I love the Star Trek universe, just that game was horrible. I don't think it exists anymore, and if it does, just some die hard fans with nothing better to do. There are much better games to play.

why was it so bad?
-
I still play it sometimes, they regularly add updates, and the game fan base is pretty significant. It's been going downhill though, because it seems like all they do is add lockboxes which means you gamble real life money for a small chance of getting good items.
I had logged over 500 hours on it, but haven't nearly been playing as much due to recent updates. -

yea seems like i need to drop 60 bucks to get anything real good without having to kill myself with 100s of hours of doing whatever. I haven't even joined a server yet....taking like 10 tries to just download patch. You got any info on game play or words of advise or important thing sto know. I don't know squat about it so not even sure what to expect
Nothin can be a worse game launch or ran game as horizons was. It was an absolutely cool game when it launched but they didn't tell anyone anything on how to play or do squat....no one knew what needed to be done for dragons or how to buy land and a whole bunch of stuff. Plus it was horrible on how hard it was to lvl plus servers were dead. Kinda like PS2....why have 10 servers and most are low-medium? that is no fun! -
You don't really need to drop a lot of money. The special ships are certainly cool but they're not necessary. However there's no real incentive for PvP, so take that with a grain of salt.
As for the gameplay, I like it but most of it is because I like Star Trek in general. The quests are standard MMO quests. It's free, so try it out. -

I just redownloaded and am playing again. i was there at launch for a couple months, then again around the end of 2010 into 2011, then again a couple days ago. Havent really figured too much out, except that my tactical captain is not a resilient as he used to be, and they start klingons at level 26 or so, and then make you spend at least a half hour getting lost in the capital city. Space is a bit better than it used to be, and ground combat is worlds better. So much better I find myself looking for ground missions to run over space. Klingons never got properly fleshed out, but apparently you can max them out without being forced to do a daily or 2, then pvp for the rest. Nice improvement.

Hey Bearclaw,
because I couldn't sent you a message, that's why I'm writing here. I have the same WD drive, it has spindown issue. I tried quietHDD, but nothing... What is your setting?
Thanks!
