It was a bit too much micro-management, IMO. I found it to be an annoying version of Age of Empires...

Back in the days when I had a very bad computer and wasn't yet into FPS, I loved that game and its addon. I've always been a Star Wars fan, so this game has that extra bonus for me. It's probably my favorite RTS game as I played it day and night. Controlling a huge army of master jedis for the Galactic Republic owns. And controlling a hero, such as Darth Vader is damn cool. Overall I found it great that they used the AoE engine to make this game.

omg, yeh i just installed it onto my laptop again. Man that used to be my favorite game ever. The multiplayer was great, i loved the CBs and Senate games, i used to map maps for it all the time. The multiplayer custom senario games is what did it for me. For just playing a game normilly i use Empire Earth or rise of nations.

Hrm, maybe I need to try this one out to get myself back into the SW universe...

I tried the empire at war demo when it first came out - but man was it way buggy...wasn't enjoyable. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

They need to come out with more spaceship sim games like the good ol' x-wing games.

Empire at War was ok. I didn't find it groundbreaking though. To be honest, Galactic Battlegrounds was much more enjoyable. The way they implemented the size restriction in Empire at War was bad. I want unlimited AT-ATs!!!

I actually had the opposite experience as you. I didn't like battlegrounds so much- after playing AoE II for years, it didn't seem to add anything. In fact, I found it to be more like a Star Wars mod for AoE than anything else. The fact that each race only had 1 - 2 special units and buildings was extremely annoying- I personally prefer the Starcraft approach: make each race with as little overlap as possible.

Empire at War was ok- the only thing I really liked about it was the ability for spacecraft to actually feel like their size. One of my complaints about SC was the fact that the Battlecruiser was supposed to be a huge capital ship, but it could somehow only fire one puny laser at a time. Other games, such as EE: AoC have built on this, and I hate it. EaW actually had spacecraft which had scores of different types of lasers, and various weapons systems that could operate independantly of each other. I personally think it added alot of strategy, such as using bombers to take out the engines of fast cruisers so my large, bulky capital ships could go finish them off.

when i played empire at war, i was extremely disappointed,
swgb with the clones xpack is superior.
