I just installed this on my laptop and thought I'd play through it again (first time through was on my desktop). One of the 1.03 patch (latest) fixes is the ability to change the resolution up to above 1280 (can't remeber the exact details but i'm sure you guys get what I mean by that).
First problem, I can't change the resolution to more than 1024X768 although the patch should allow it to go more than that. Not really much of a problem cos it still look great.
Second thing is no widescreen option so I tried changing the options file myself (as you do to get widescreen for F.E.A.R. or Command and Conquer Generals) but when i start the game up again its in 640X480 mode.

The check hardware says that I have higher than recommended for everything except graphics card but I just put that down to the fact that there were no x1600's when the game was released. When I play it, it runs perfectly with highest settings.
Any ideas on how to get widescreen or maybe try a higher resolution? This is all cosmetic really and the game looks good and runs fine at 1024X768 non widescreen but I would like to get the most that I can out of it.

Welcome in the club, I'm also a big KOTOR fan, still not have played Sith Lords (I'm waiting for Ultra Hi-Res textures from one of polish sites). Nevermind. And about your problem. You can't get more than 1024x768 because (not sure) you have widescreen display (1280x768 or 800) but the game was designed for non wide aspect so to when you want to set 1280 the game wants 1280x1024 (but you have only 768 or 800) so that's the problem I guess. And about widescreen gaming check this out http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1032 it's for KOTOR2 but should work with KOTOR as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the link, I think I'll try it out soon.
My screens native is 1280x800 so your explanation makes sense although I change to 800 as well which works for generals and fear so I assumed it would work with this.

OK, just to let anyone who want to try the widescreen on kotor, it didn't work for me and the link does say that there are issues with the patch for the widescreen but that too bad for me

I also had issues getting KOTOR to run in widescreen, I simply leave it in standard and am fine with it. Looks a little stretched, but that's alright. Can't ruin a game as great as this one. Probably my favorite game of all time.

Have to agree with you there Chaz. It runs stretched on mine too, but I still love playing it and KotorII too. Although I was a bit disappointed with KotorII from all the cutting out of things they did to get it to market on time.

I loved both KOTOR's. And hated how they chopped 2. It makes me mad to think how much it would have been better not chopped. But I'll still play them both again. :)

I remember there was some group trying to make a mod for the cut sections as almost all the dialog and everything was there. WIll look into it and let you all know.

I think parts of that mod are on filefront somewhere.

KOTOR, my love. I used to play it for quite a long time on a desktop computer... don't have it anymore, but it's nice to see people still getting interested in that.
