yep, saw this the other day, i've been wait for this game for a long time

The thing is.....why should PC gamers care?
I mean LucasArt obviously doesn't care about the PC gaming market by saying how PCs can't handle the game even though consoles (which just have PC hardware underneath) can. The game is mediocre at best and there really isn't much appeal for me and most people unless they're a big Star Wars fan or something like that. -
My rule of thumb: Whether it's a book or a game, stay away from anything with the word "unleashed" in the title.
-
ill probably be getting this. depends on how well it runs.

I recently caved in and bought this for Xbox 360. I was sure I was going to like it because...
a)The story was supposed to be awesome.
b)It's Star Wars.
I knew with full intent, going in that that it was going to be a half-broken game. But I must admit that I was surprised at how broken the combat is in this game.
It's basically one of the most boring and uninspiring action adventure games I have played.
QTEs from god of War.. Boring as hell. The lightsaber combat is not satisfying at all. Basic repetitive slashes. It makes you wish for something along the lines of the good old days in the Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy days(hopefully these will come to Steam soon).
The AI is broken, the enemies are annoying and not fun to fight, and the game has an incredible uneven difficulty. Worst of all, all it's impressive tech is completely useless and does nothing for the gameplay, unlike a game like Half-Life 2, where physics matters, or a game like Halo where it just adds to the game.
Here it's like a tech demo.
As for the story; I must give it some points. It is indeed a decent story, but one so fast-forwarded with poor pace, that it takes it apart. Voice Acting and facial animations are good. characters are very interesting(random scattered jedi, evil people). And even the generic looking main character ends up as a very appealing lead who belongs in the same realm as Kyle Katarn.
However, we are not of KOTOR quality. It's done in such a rush, jumping from each scene to the next, that it does not grab a hold of you. Instead you sit there and think about how awesome this could have been as a role playing game, or as a feature film or as a game that was designed for one platform and not made on pc and then ported to 6-7 platforms... freakin mobile phones and DS? really?
The Force Unleashed is not bad, bad. For a Star Wars game it's even above mediocre if you consider all the crap fans have been forced to take from Lucas and friends over the years.
I am absolutely convinced that LucasArts is one of the worst gaming publishers that are still alive today, and thus I fear for the incredible potential of Star Wars The Old Republic. If LucasArts screw up, not even Bioware can save this for suffering a fate that will make a million Star Wars fans scream out in terror, with voices suddenly silenced.
I repeat - Do not expect good or interesting gameplay from this. I think you will be bored. If you are a big Star Wars fan, it's worth doing it for the story, but it took me an afternoon to beat, including all the annoying buggy deaths and shoddy made enemies. It reminded me of Heavenly Sword.
Same great concept for Story, and beautiful visuals that somehow falls flat in a dip of horrible framerate, poor combat system and style-no-substance.
If you want a hardcore awesome Action Adventure, try Devil May Cry 4. It's cheap on Steam, well-ported(it runs better than you would expect) is quite deep. Just ignore the fixed camera angels and get a 360 PC controller, and you are set.
If you want Lightsaber action, go install Jedi Knight Academy and wait for the Force Unleashed Mod. Some guys are trying to recreate the game with the quake 3 engine. It's very interesting to see all the cool mods still being made for this awesome Star Wars game.
The explanation is simple: JKA has one of the best fighting melee systems ever. Just swining a lightsaber is a pure thrill in this game and it will never grow old.
If it ends up on Steam, everybody should buy it. check out the mods at jk3.files.com -
The Force Unleashed worked for me only in the Wii version. The playability with the wiimote and Nunchuk really made it shine for me. Not interested in swing a lightsaber with a mouse anymore.

That news is like weeks old, but I purchase the ps2 version like a month ago.... Which I regret, but I "might" get this version...

Hmm I've read a few reviews and it doesn't sound too hot honestly. I guess I'll check out the ones on the PC version when it comes out.
Oh and random note(and I know I'll gt bashed for this) but ummm what was SO great about the KotOR storyline? I mean, it was great, don't get me wrong, but people seem to praise it as some great piece of literature -
TBH, as much as I love Star Wars, the only game that was ever worth playing was Republic Commando, and that game wasn't really anything that original either, but it was fun. -
The only star wars game that I played for several hours at a time was X-wing and TIE Fighter (DOS!!!). I loved those games. Back then they were the greatest space/flight sims ever (at least in my mind). Ever since then, every other game from Lucas arts has been kind of a let down but I mostly attribute it to my change in taste for games. I really wish they would do a modern remake of them.
I did play SWG for a bit too until they started making it easy to become a Jedi. Had to quit then
I always do have high hopes for every Star Wars game that is about to come out soon. Hopefully The Old Republic will be decent. -
Now the only star wars I believe that were really good were Jedi Outcast and Rouge Squadron for N64 and its sequel for Gamecube.
One more thing, about the ps2, it wasnt lucas art that made that port it was another studio. The ps2 version is a different game from the ps3 version. Physics and graphics are what separate them apart. I just think they were too lazy to release a crappy port for the pc version... -
Yes it is, and us older gamers bring up those games (x-wing/tie fighter) to show how old school we areand that the younger generation do not know how good they have it in todays gaming market, yet all they do is compain about it. In order to play a game, I had to walk in the snow, up hill, both ways!!!!!! er, yeah.....
-
Anyways, on topic I have yet to finish playing force unleash on ps2, so I might hold off for the pc version to come out since I have too many games to play. -
Oh no AznImports602, that was not directed at you or anyone else. It was a broad generalization based on my observations that whenever a new game comes out, you ussually see more compaints and gripes about it than anything else. Maybe it's just me.....I try to enjoy a game for what it is and not what it could be or how you think it should be. Though there are times where I have been dissappointed as well.
Sorry for the derailment...... -
Great....................another console port ! I'll pass !
-
i personally loved the game but the ending (light side at least) was a bit of a letdown.
-
I'll buy it off steam if it includes multiplayer. Beat it 4 times on xbox 360.
-
I don't care about that game. I want a Jedi Knight IV!!! I want my complex lighsaber fighting system back.
