the problem with new and emerging MMO's is that WoW is vastly superior in terms of polishedness and features since it's been around for ages and has an enormous population (plus, Blizzard is the developer and their finances are very good). since MMO's are becoming increasingly popular, when new ones debut, people play them for a month and realize that the game has something lacking (which all of them will since they're brand spanking new and developers need money to further develop the game) and people go back to the previous game they played and complain, driving down the potential population base.

WoW wasn't anything like it was today - it got better over time due to feedback and patching over the years. new games try so hard to get out all the content they can so the people aren't bored, but the game flops because people are way to impatient to wait. i just hope people realize that with new games. i really want games like GA to become increasingly popular over the next few years - the game play is fun and the world has so much potential.

i really hope SW: TOR does well. but i hope it offers something new to the table and isn't a 'WoW clone'. i haven't really read much about it, but i do like the setting / theme, and KOTR was a very good game.

From my understanding, BioWare doesn't have shallow pockets either, and the level of polish and success that has been consisten throughout their previous releases will make its way into this game I'm sure.

I can't wait for this one to come out personally. I played WoW for several years, but Star Wars is an unbeatable world in my eyes. I'm already scoping out desktop parts in order to build one predominantly for this game.

I have a terrible knack of comparing every sci-fi video game, movie, and tv show to star wars and they all pale in comparison.

Levenly brings up a lot of great points. It's hard for new MMOs to flourish with the rampaging Goliath that is WoW. And all of us, as MMO fans that have just grown tired of the same old same old, are longing for an MMO that can be the David to our Goliath. The problem is that WoW has years of experience behind it and no matter how much some of us hate to admit it, WoW just does things better. I'm not asking for a strict WoW clone when I look at upcoming games like GW2 or TOR, but I do hope that their respective developers take an observant look at WoW and what makes it so damn unbeatable. Then they can incorporate those characteristics into their own unique and creative formula. This, I feel, is the most sure-fire recipe for success.

And if you are wondering what I mean by "does things better", here's a short list: WoW allows for 3rd party UI mods, it has polished and streamlined questing and exploration, basic combat mechanics that are easy to pick up and hard to master, a reliable customer support network, and much more. If the last few MMOs that I played (Aion, FFXIV, AoC, etc) had these facets, then I would not have put them down. I understand these games can and will get better over time but some things are just inexcusable. In today's MMO market, you can't present a new title without these or other essentials characteristic, 'less you want your subscriptions to decimate.
