Pre-orders went online at 3AM and by 8AM, Collectors Edition was sold out.
I know that some physical stores are getting a limited amount of copies (Collectors Ed.), so if you guys really want it, you should call your local gaming store ASAP. I had to put a 10$ deposit for mine earlier today.
49.99$ = Standard
79.99$ = Deluxe
149.99$ = Collectors
This game is going to be a major hit.
First come, first serve -- meaning the sooner you pre-order, the more likely you'll be in the first BETA waves.
I'm so hyped up for this game, can't wait!![]()
What class are you guys going to play?
I'm planning on playing the Bounty Hunter.

Has Bioware announced the monthly subscription fee? $10/month? $20/month? If not, are these people actually buying the game without having any idea how much more they will have to pay every month?
The game looks like a lot of fun, and it has a lot of things going for it. However, there are many potential customers like me who have never played MMOs before and simply have no interest in paying a monthly fee for a single game.
Why spend $60 to buy this game when I can buy Skyrim for $60 and play it for years with no additional costs?
For $8/month I already have unlimited access to every movie and TV show on Netflix. Why would I want to pay that much to have access to a single game that I already bought?
The $60 pricetag comes with 30-day trial period, but I don't imagine I would ever pay $60 for a game that I can only play for 1 month. I'm honestly somewhat surprised they are even charging anything at all for the game, after all, why not offer it for free and get people hooked, making them pay the monthly subscription fee if they want to continue playing after the trial period. -
It'll be the standard 15$/mo.
Paying monthly is pretty normal in the MMO world. Players receive content patches for the life of the game, which can include instances, gear, talents, classes, specs, etc.
Monthly fees are better than free MMO's with micro-transactions because the playing field is balanced for everyone. Free MMO's requires cash investments to get ahead (at least the one's I've tried). -

The cost per hour of entertainment value seems quite high for TOR compared to open world RPGs like Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, etc., or strategy games like Civ5., that work out to a few pennies per hour of entertainment value if you play them for hundreds or thousands of hours over a period of years.
Is it common for these MMO games to charge an additional $60 fee to get the install disc, beyond the monthly subscription fee? I thought, for example that games like WoW were free to download, you just have to pay the monthly fees. -
The top MMO's I've played always charge 50-60$ for the game initially, followed a monthly subscription fee.
WoW is free to download as a trial, up to level 20. Beyond that, you're required to pay for the game and its expansion packs as well as the monthly fee. Last time I checked, the entire package was about 60-70$~ for the entire lot (game+expansions).
It might sound a little expensive, but the gaming experience in some of these MMO's is superb and very entertaining. -
I can't stand MMO's. I got to lvl 14 on wow and had to quit due to sheer boredom. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. :/ This on is tempting but I can't afford to waste my money if I don't find it interesting.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
I knew it was going to be monthly! Glad I went with Guild Wars 2!
-
I thought this was going to be free to play. Man, I'm so late lol.

The pricing is pretty ridiculous considering how little information Bioware gave out about the game. If it's going to be a great game they would release much more info / gameplay footage, like what arenanet is doing with GW2.
Suspicious. It feels like what happened with a few other big MMO titles in the recent past. -

Sorry, I won't succumb to the monthly payment model, even if the Battlefield series took that route I wouldn't. $180/year + $50 (or more) for a game? No thanks.

I guess they wanted to start taking pre-orders early to have some beta testers or something. Maybe they figure the people who are actually willing to pay money now will be forgiving testers. -
Also, pre-ordering doesn't get you into Beta. It justs gives you the opportunity to play pre-launch (it would be more of a server stress test). -
You're buying a game with forced scarcity (how do you run out of pre-orders for an online game?), which has no release date, no gameplay trailers, not much information at all.
Hope you know what you're getting yourself into. -

As much as I am looking forward to this game and will definitely buy it, there is no way I'm pre-ordering it. Maybe because of my location, but I've yet to encounter a problem finding a collector's edition of anything in my neck of the woods after launch, on the shelves and available.
I'm sure they will have another wave of Collector's Editions considering the game isn't slated for release for another 6 months. In the realm of computer gamers, collectable editions = as many as we can sell.
Still really excited about the game though. Maybe we will actually have our first WoW killer. -
The way I look at it is $15/month is cheap for all the hours of entertainment you're getting comparatively. I mean that's the price of 1 movie ticket (and that's if you go alone and don't get food) or a fast food meal. If you only played an average of 1 hour per day that's only $0.50 per hour of entertainment, hard to find that else where.
You also can't compare single player games to MMOs because people that enjoy MMOs generally enjoy them for the interaction with other live people, which no single player game can replicate.
Edit: Also I won't be getting this game because it looks awful imo. I'll most likely be going the GW2 route, or maybe Tera if it actually becomes a hit (not looking good at this point though). -

was about the Exile going in search of, and finding, Revan. Then they team up to stop the "True Sith" -
Other than that, I agree with you -- preordering this half a year in advance makes no sense. -

and seeing what TOR is you are going to fail in the end
I dont like MMOs, since my last gf said that I would be easily addicted to it, as she was. Aside this the real thing is the one HTwingnut pointed out, its a complete rip off 180/year is too much. But this one I would be sure to give it a try, to see for myself if it is worth or not. I however couldnt pre order yesterday, due to my location, pretty bad for a game that is supposed to be global. -

Anyways, it's probably just gonna be a WoW clone with Star Wars skins. -
^ We will see, but for sure the hype is already quite high. Hope it will not reach a 'Godzila-like' type of hype.

Game is still being polished, just remember
And even so, Story/Experience > Graphics. -
Now if the gameplay looked like the E3 trailer I'd totally buy this, however, that is nowhere near the case.
-
It's still being polished, so one can hope for Rift gameplay-like graphics or better
-
It's mid 2011 people, and the new batch of MMOs probably won't be around until at least Q1 2012. I expect at least Aion quality graphics, minimum. -

I may try out GW2 due to no monthly fee but I dont think I can get into another Pay to Play MMO, I dont have the time or money to give away and I end up trying to play as much as possible to get my "moneys worth" and it ends up not being a good idea.
That noted I thought this game was out already, must be another Star Wars MMO that is already out?? or I am just thinking it was out already. -
Star Wars Galaxies was the one from SOE that was released a long time ago. This isn't out yet.

What's with all the hate for monthly subscription fees? It's not like it's a particularly new business model--most older MMOs still use it. I'm more surprised at the steep CE price--I see CE editions 2x the price of the standard edition fairly often, but 3x?

That's 1.5hrs of a minimum wage job per month (at least where I live).
For the amount of entertainment a good MMO can provide, it's worth every penny
Heck -- If you go to the movies, a ticket is generally 10$ for 1.5-2hrs of entertainment and that's without the overpriced popcorn/drinks/snacks. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
I'm just not comfortable paying $60 for a game I can only play for 30 days.
Or $75 for a game I can only play for 60 days
Or $240 for a game I can only play for 1 year.
If they had made the game free to download and install, to try for 30 days or 15 days before charging my credit card for the monthly fee, I would have probably tried it.
But I'm not going to pay $60 for a 30-day trial. -
I say supposedly because I almost always get tired of any MMO before the 3 or 6 month mark, but if you're sure you'll be playing that long (and the MMO will actually be alive that long), it might be a good choice.
Also, sometimes, games will let you download demos (or maybe from a buddy pass), so you don't have to buy the whole thing right away.
