I hadn't embraced the idea of a KOTOR MMO over KOTOR 3...but OMFG. That just gave me an erection.

Ummm . . . how is this different from World of Warcraft?

Because I hate WoW. And Everquest.

Honestly, what I liked about KOTOR was its replability. It was a single player game that you could play several times and still get some quality fun out of it. Honestly, whats the appeal of this?

Probably one of the best trailers for a game I've seen. I liked how it advertised not only Jedi/Sith, but Bounty hunters and regular soldiers in a subtle way.

Of course Force powers just got way more appealing too :D

Oh if only this was P2P >.<

isnt this trailer the most movie-like franchise based trailer you've ever seen?

they could make a CG movie out of this

EDIT: Wow, even more news apparently since this game is an MMO this thing will have full coice acting for EVERY character including NPC's....take a look:

This is a feature I am very excited about. I first got interested in EQ2 for the same possibility but when I started playing it only came up sometimes and didn't feal like it was featured as much as it could be. The big boss example of it were intense which in an mmo can be a really excellent feature. I can't wait for this game to come out.

The combat system will be a little bit different that the usual... it is built around being choreographed and looking believable.

Some people forget here that each profession will have a completely different story arc... play two different professions, you don't see one repeated quest...

When it comes to MMOs I wait for gameplay footage before getting hyped. Otherwise, the trailer was nicely done.

Ill pay any monthly fee for that

what kind of gameplay do you think it will be similar to guild wars?(the questing and missions ect not the actual gameplay)

hopefully the actual fighting is like the first 2 kotors

Yeah, I was excited about A-list voice overs in EQ2 just like you were. If I remember correctly, Jennifer Gardner did the voice over for Antonia Bayle (good side) and Christopher Lee did the voice over for Lucan D'Lere (evil side).

The problem with these voice overs, I felt, was that they were not sufficiently infused into the game itself. It was as though SOE relied more on star power to get the game notoriety than anything else, like a marketing gimmick to get people to buy the game. To me, this really cheapened the EQ2 experience.

Good luck. This simply won't happen as the sheer costs to produce and maintain an MMO costs millions over its development and subsequent release cycle. By neccessity, MMO's rely heavily on a pay-to play business strategy, or really heavy advertising.

This. As good as Bioware is, a MMO is still a different animal. So many features/CG previews make the games sounds revolutionary/surefire winner but often times by launch its not nearly what it should be.

I cannot believe how epic fail it was that they had no gameplay for the public today. The SWTOR forums are on fire at the moment. Not a good PR day for Bioware.

The reason this was such an epic fail was Bioware specifically told us on the forums and with developer information that we were going to have a world debut of in game footage. I know we got a great teaser movie but that is beside the point completely.

The mods on the swtor forums have already apolegized because even they didn't know this was going to happen.

It wasn't a smart move with this intellectual property. Star Wars is like life to some people. People get married in stormtrooper armor.... You can't bait and switch people like this without serious fallout.

That's pretty pathetic that they couldn't even manage a minute or two of gameplay footage. BioWare should be embarassed.

They had gameplay footage, it was just behind closed doors. It makes no sense as to why, but I'm hoping beyond hope that at least one screenshot of the UI will come out shortly.

I find it hysterical that some people are this butt-hurt over a freakin' trailer not showing in-game footage. Seriously, these people need a life. Or a hobby that doesn't turn them into pasty-faced whiners.

I just covered this game at E3 today. :)

went up to the LucasArts meeting room to see the gameplay and had an interview with the VPs of Development.

the game is shaping up to be everything the KoToR's were, but at a much larger scale.

in early stages of beta, looking real good and there will be closed betas.

seriously... there are 8 classes (only a few have been announced) and the story line for each class is different and can take ~100 hours to run through per class.

And like KoToR 1 & 2, your actions will drastically change your storyline and your character. So if you and a friend start together with same character type, within a number of hours of gameplay and going through multiple story/plot points, you will probably have very different builds and future.

I will elaborate more soon when I type out the interview... or release the audio of it.

P.S. been running on 4 hours of sleep each night covering this E3, so I need sleep.

Will the game be purely a MMO? No Single player?

I think it will be a good game and a real change of pace for MMO, but I wonder how diverse and uniqe the story can be for a MMO, the idea behind an MMO is other people are sharing the same quest/story as you are so you need to party to complete it. Unless this is more of a solo MMO.

Only reason I dont see this taking huge ground is because WoW still stands strong and another MMO that looks really good Aion is also coming soon.

Speaking of Aion, I didnt know it just saw it when I went to there site they were giving away 5000 closed beta keys starting today and they are already all gone....

You are now one of my personal heroes! Heheheh. I just need to confirm this, because it sounds just too fabulous - did they indeed state the game is in early beta? This is one of the things they have been very quite about... if you made them let it slip, the TOR community will love you.

1)Is the combat like KOTOR, or is it Auto-attack-MMOish? Can you move while attacking or are you stuck? < for example, if a guy is shooting with a laser pistol can he move away from a jedi while shooting at him, and can the jedi hit with his lightsaber while running after?

2)Can you jump and move around freely? Is the controls as free as WoW?

3)Is the game split up into small zones and instances with loading screens, like guild wars, age of conan and such, or is it one big world with no loading screens like WoW?

4)have they talked about similiarites to SWG? Will it be an open world game? player run economy? player cities?

No auto-attack, and not like KoTOR... yeah, you can move, it's encouraged... certain professions even have a highly complex cover system...

    There are instances.

They're balancing open-world with instances to allow for good storytelling.

Let's hope not! After the fallout over the CU and NGE, I would hope other developers would learn from that fiasco. Besides, why would they talk about similarities in regards to SWG? This MMO has nothing to do with SWG other than it being based on the Star Wars universe.

so my thoughts were correct, you dont even need anyone to actually play the game, so it technically would be played as a single player game.
