But you still have to be connected to the internet, right?

it was "just a trailer"...
hard to make any type of assessment without any gameplay shown at all... -

I dont think I can pay monthly for a online single player game, lets hope it has enough real MMO content to justify your monthly payment. -
-
*sigh* can't really blame them for the whole pay to play thing though. Sucks. May as well start stealing games like everyone else -
You obviously have too much down time when deployed. After work and the gym pretty much all I have time for is passing out...
...and I'm married, so when I'm in Garrison I probably don't go out near as much as the single soldiers. -

Any "good" MMO has to be pay to play really, it takes money and income to keep up good servers and to reinvest into the game for more content and things.
I dont argue against paying monthly for a MMO, but the point I think is if the game is more single player like that MMO, then rather than just trying to capture MMO players by making this an online game, they could have made it an offline game instead that did not require the payment.
Also think how hard it may be to extend content for this game, if everything is voiced and one thing leads to the next. If they want to add additional content for a current character what if they cant get the voice actor or something to do the new work.
I'll give them props for trying something new and I wont poorly judge the game as nobody knows how good/bad it is yet, but it just sounds like how it is now that it was intended as a Mass Effect style one player game and they just tossed in some of the usual MMO extras like an Auction House, Crafting/Trading, Chat, and stuff can call it a MMO now. -
You will need an Internet connection to play this game, seriously... you can go through most of it without help, but updates, dynamic content, stuff like that... you need to be connected for it. -
mmm... really wanting this one and STO.... can't wait....

2)Both games where about living in the Star Wars universe. And that was one of SWGs strong suits in it's prime.
3)This game is based on the WoW model. Quest progression. It's too risky to do anything else. They have advertised that the game will be a normal MMO, with more emphasis on a great story and full voice acting. It will be a on-rails-can-be-soloed-and-completed-blind-folded experience like WoW, rather than the open ended sandbox idea of early SWG.
CU and NGE, SWG, was an attempt to copy WoW which was a mistake. It's open world design did not mix with the static linear WoW model.
And SOE's developer are very much inferior in game design to Blizzard, who are among the best in the entire world.
4)As SWG proved, both games have a strong and very protected license that conflicts with the interests of LucasArts. SOE couldn't change a single bug without going through hassles and boring protocols with LA to make sure that canon and lore was not broken.
An incredible killer in terms of getting content out there.
Vanguard was a proof that many people don't have time to be dependant on people while doing boring quests like killing 20 rats or collecting cow bells from a magic elf.
SWTOR will have group play, and group missions, and you will do many of them with your companions. Yes, you will be able to get NPC party members like in KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2. And they will comment and have an opinion about your choices.
It's unclear if they can change to good or evil as well!...
If they can deliver on what they promise(which they can't) then it should be very good. Apparently there will be 200 hours worth of quests for each class(there are 8 classes). That does not make sense.
KOTOR could be completed in less than 50 hours easily, so going to max level in SWTOR would take KOTOR 1 x4 times? With enganging multi pathed and voice overed quests? It' does not seem likely. and 200 hours x 8 class storylines. That's 1,600 hours worth of story quests.
That's not counting pvp, crafting, raids... but these things have been confirmed but not talked about.
SWTOR seems it will be a very standard MMORPG. It won't innovate besides storytelling.
Ships and space seems unlikely... but I wish they would just get it in now, so we don't get a SWG-like effect. -
My interview is now up.... more content to be added.... very soon.

good interview Gophn, still seems very single player at this point to me.
-
it does seem that this MMO can be played as a single player.
... but from some gameplay footage, you definitely can team up to do RAIDs and quests which definitely cannot be done alone. -
All I can say is wow.......they must have some good writers...
-
-
But any photography of the in-game footage cannot be released... for now.
Not much to say about the game play though, looks KOTOR-ish... environment and art are slightly different.
Go and look at the "Documentary" videos/trailers of this game and you will have a good idea of the in-game footage... most of which are in alpha stage of development, but still looks good. -
I'm just dissapointed that I won't get to continue the storyline/universe

Oh boy, oh boy
Acting like a kido but cant w8 for it
Freakin awesome E3 intro, darn they are gooooood (as alwayz)
-
I'm lucky in that I just got into Lotro in the last month. It is definitely keeping me busy while I wait for swtor. I have already played an mmo Dark Jedi as bad as the guys in the preview video we got at E3. In star wars galaxies at one point I was so powerful I could roll a guild of 35 full template buffed players solo. I know this experience will be different from that one but I am really excited about the possibilities now that we have a time frame where people won't go ape crazy when they see lots of sith and Jedi fighting. Should be a fun ride.
-
My one hope is that they don't let you make a Jedi or Sith at the start, and instead make you have to work to be able to make one.
-
They chose the time frame to make sense of a lot of Fore Sensitives... and not letting people instantly play as them would be an awful mistake. -
but i wanna be a dancer and dance in the cantina all day!
