Is unknown... But heck, we cant let them World of Warcraft players have a thread of NBR without a Star Wars one to show 'em how much better SWTOR is gonna be!
Amirite? Am I the only one really really really excited about it coming out sometime in the beginning of next year?
What you guys gonna play? Empire or Republic? Sith or Jedi? Smuggler or Bounty Hunter?

Hmm I can imagine the 100's of teeth grinding when people open this thread thinking they'll see the release date, and dont, so erm, maybe some moderator can change the name to just Star Wars: the old republic or something...
-
Wasn't it Bio-something or other who are developing it?
-
Yes, BioWare, the (current) best developers of RPGs. I normally don't play on-line / multiplayer games, but I might have to give this one a try.
-
I'm kind of fed up with mmo's, but even if it will just be average from the mmo perspective (e.g. lack of endgame, tedious grinding etc.) I'd still play it just for the solo experience: storytelling, voiceacting, and the cool combat animations. I just hope it has the makings of a cool mmo
btw Imma make a bounty hunter first! -
I'm looking forward to it, but I have a hard time bringing myself to pay a monthly fee for playing an mmorpg. I would do it for this if it were amazing, and a Fallout mmorpg.
-
Your subject tag!!!! argh! hahahaaha...
I am looking forward to it, but not with ravenous anticipation. I hate MMO's and the fact that they put so many artificial carrots around designed to keep players grinding and grinding away. I swore them off after playing a bunch and after waking up from a year long WoW stupor feeling like I'd been cheated.
Still, I love Bioware RPG's and everything about them, each title is a release day purchase for me. That coupled with Bioware's really interesting and fresh take on the Star Wars saga has me excited. -
Yeah, BioWare is awesome, you could say they are the next Blizzard? hehe
-
Sith will probably attract all the kiddies, so I'll give Jedi's a shot.
Sith's will be the new Blood Elves lol. -
Huh? I was thinking the opposite to be honest... During Vanilla WoW I always felt like all the kiddies went for Night Elves... So wouldnt the kiddies go for Jedi? :>

Very misleading thread title.
-
Hmm mmos are my favorite type of game. Iv played a ton of them, this thread is lacking though when it comes to excitement for mmos rolf! Iv never seen such lackluster enthusiasm for mmos. hah!
-
Haha yeah sorry me12345
at least it got you posting!

That said, Star Wars, BioWare, and a (supposedly) good in-depth storyline is enough to give this game a try. It doesn't mean that I'll pay for the subscription for more than just a few months, but try it I will. Plus, according to the website, you can play through the majority of the game by yourself, though there are a few things that you will need a team for. -
I have high hopes for this game but, like always, I think I'm going to be disappointed : the combat doesn't look dynamic enough. Anyway, I think I might try playing a Sith Warrior and then make him switch sides so that he joins the Republic (I think there was a developer who said it was possible to switch sides with a quest).
-
No it is not possible to switch sides from republic to the sith or vice versa. This has been stated by the developers in many interviews thousands of times. It will never be put into the game simply because of the money required to pull it off with the story, voice acting, and keeping the high quality.
The one thing I hate are the people that say the "kiddies" are going to go all to the republic side or the sith side. It is you that I would want to avoid in the game, and not these so called "kiddies" since all you think about is stereotyping people into classifications with zero scientific data or video game proof besides your one sever in wow where you actually only knew 20% of the entire population. It has already been proven many times that all games have the roughly the same proportions of bad players to good, and only games with larger populations have this noticeable such as WoW. And if people actually were smart, they would look at the polls on almost all mmo forums, and see that its pretty much an equal 50/50 spread of these so called "kiddies" across both sides of mmos.
Also stop saying "This game will disappoint me just like [Previous failed mmmo here]". This game has already proven that it is not rushing any part of its game, and is also probably the only mmo that is actually UNDER HYPING their own game with their little bits of info they release each week. No one knows if TOR will be the next best thing since sliced bread, but we do know it wont be released like AoC or Warhammer in their unfinished and buggy state. Put your faith into Bioware, and trust that they will make the best game they can possibly make. A company does not go into a full on beta a year before launch if they were not dedicated in what they were making.
People that complain about TOR's combat make me laugh. Do you really think its going to be some jaw dropping action at lvl2? Tell me WoW's lvl2 combat is amazing with their classes only having one real attack, and then look back at TOR. If you actually look into the game instead of stopping at some lvl2 footage, you will notice the moves for some awesome abilities in the class talent trees. And we have still seen zero pvp or pve in the entire game other then one or two lvl10 flash points. So if you do want to even have an opinion on TOR's combat, wait until we actually see end game combat please.
I am not saying this game is a guaranteed success, but do not view this game in two seconds and say that its "just going to fail like all the other mmos". I've been following this game religiously for about 2 years now, and I probably know everything you could possibly know about this game. Just wait for for this game to be finished before you make any conclusions. All I know is I am probably going to enjoy myself when I log in for the first time. -

Isn't the beta supposed to be released this year? And also is this free to play?
-
If it's early next year, then I am rather excited. It is hard to be excited for games sometimes when it's not coming out for another year or two.
i.e. Gears of war 3, diablo 3, SC2 heart of the swarm, etc. -
No this game will not be f2p, but we have not been told what payment plan they will be following. Most likely it will include the generic $15 a month, but its anyone's guess. It has also been thought that item stores will be implemented since there have been some mentions of Bioware dollars in the EULA and the likes. This does not really mean a whole lot since Bioware already has their virtual dollars which people can buy dlc content with and not really any "you must have or its a gkick" in-game items.
Right now TOR's expected release date is Spring of 2011. From interviews in this past E3 and PAX, Bioware has mentioned many times that they are on track to meet this release date. So, expect this game to most likely be released in Spring of 2011. -
Here's some optimistic, hehe, rumors about SWTOR, supposedly from a whistleblower
