I am FRAPSing some games when I play with you guys.

Its a lot of work getting them on youtube because of several limitations (not more than 10 minutes, FRAPS breaks the game down to 1:20 clips, youtube wont accept 1920x1200) but going to try to add some videos up as time passes.

Something you should know!

16:10 widescreen monitors compared to 16:9 monitors in Starcraft 2. When playing on a 16:10 monitor the game just crops your extra horizontal view rather than compensating for the extra pixels and giving you more vertical view. I knew it was like this in beta but hoped it would change in the final game, but I just tested and it does not. If your an incredibly competiive gamer you may want to keep this in mind. 4:3 screen users... same deal the game retains the exact same vertical view no matter what your screen resolution and just crops the horizontal to match your aspect ratio. So wider = better.

I made this image to show you. The wider image is 16:9 (1920x1080) and the shorter images is 16:10 (1920x1200)



There are always going to be issues with different sized monitors being on market but I cant belive they did not take the smart approach and find a medium between all sizes. Meaning in the 16:9 vs 16:10 they should have only cropped the horizontal view by half as much as it is now and added the other half to your vertical view. This way the net view for each player is the same.

Update 12/17/10 - We have a Offical NBR Mumble Server.

This is an alternative to HTWingNut's Teamspeak 3 server, its a higher quality server that we have been using for voice communications.
Its hosted on my computer at home and everybody is free to use it.

Update 01/18/11 - SC2 now has chat!

The latest patch has added chat room support inside of the game client, we have claimed the room name "nbr" (without quotes) as our offical chat. So when ever you are online be sure to stop in.

 

man i wish i was back home.

theyre suppose to be upgrading the wifi out here next month so hopefully ill join u guys next month.

until then, i have to figure out how to get offline mode running so i can play some hard ai

Btw, you can probably just cut out Canada as an option. Not to further the assimilation of my fellow Canadians in the US but we'll probably get better pings by going US West/Central/East. Coast to coast in Canada could get awful laggy.

Well, I was having lots of fun playing the campaign, and then I decided to take a shot at my first 1v1 match online (I didn't play in Beta and I stopped playing SC1 8 years ago). I got my handed to me, I didn't have a 3rd building up and my opponent already had a full blown army rushing my base.

I understand there is a learning curve and I will get better, but I thought there was some sort of match making mechanic. How long until the system figures out that I will never beat a guy from S. Korea?

 

I think there are 5 placement matches. Once you finish those 5 placements matches you will get placed into a league and start playing people more around your skill level.

 

How'd you play a guy in Korea? Unless you're located in Korea, I didnt know we could play people outside of the US (with exception being New Zealand, Australia, etc).

 

He was implying that the guy was as good as a South Korean. Since we all know they live off meth and play starcraft all day.

 

I think they live off redbull and starcraft. Atlest that sounds more NBR safe to say

Quite disappointing for most. Cuz sometimes I used to go on Europe or Asia when West and/or East didn't have any good maps to play, or when servers were down for some reason.

What do you mean? You put where you LIVE did you put the wrong answer?

Not what server you play on or anything else its your physical location to determine how far away you are from another player for ping/latency issues.

If you put the wrong answer in there for some reason I can change it for you just PM me.

 

So can west coast play east coast on bnet2.0? Who else can we Californians play besides WesT?

 

Not sure but I know you can play anybody in the U.S. been playing all day with various people from west & east coast.

P.S. I got 775k score on Lost Viking (the arcade game in the bar in single player) see if anybody can beat that

the gold medal achievement is at 500k and seems to be as high as you can go, kinda disappointed there is no avatar associated with getting a score that high as I think it would be rare.

 

Its not divided up like it used to. Remember back in 1998 the bandwidth required to do all of north america was just out of reach, where now its not. So you get to play with everyone in NA, Europe and so forth, rather then east, west coast.

Lol i had to complain the net contractors here bc they blocked bnet, but not anymore!

Im most likely going to stick to single player stuff until i get out of here tho, bc the net is a bit laggy.

Dont want to start a new thread for this stuff we have way too many SC2 threads right now, im surprised the mods have not started to merge/close them as is.

 

Any new SC2 players?, the list grew fast and then just stopped! Everybody on the list has managed to get in a few games with me so far so its working well. The more people the better.

Damn, there must be alotta new players, cuz I'm by no means gosu, but I in my first bnet 1v1 game the other nite (Steppes of War, ZvT), I swept the opponent in a "macro" game. Well, it was macro on my side, cuz I got the achievement for reaching macro lol, and he didn't have much. I didn't play the beta much (played like total of 2 games on it), so I wasnt familiar with units/strat/buildings...so I just went lings+hydras, and threw in something called "Roaches", which I guess are just big lings??? It's pretty fun. Gotta find more time to learn all the units/strat though. But I guess there's others out there who need to learn more than I do.

To conclude, SC2 gets a 4/5 rating. The missing point is cuz of missing oldschool features like the chat room, the melee maps which are already included with the game, and the price. I don't mind so much the missing-LAN anymore, cuz I no longer live in a dorm room, and have no siblings.

Yeah probably is the case lol, I had just one person on the list I could not add as a friend maybe it was your name I cant remember.

Also a new thing I just found out. You can mouse over your portorate when you log onto battle.net and it will tell you your character ID if you dont want to follow the tutorial steps where I show you to click the add friends button.

I haven't been able to play the last few days because I've been at my college orientation but I will be home tonight and want to get in as many games as I can before college starts in september.

But some people don't want their e-mail to be spammed to hell and back, or they don't want to give out random people their real full names.

I am going back for campaign achievements right now but if you message me I am down for games. Random1337 asked me to play today, but for some reason looks like he DCed right before we played. Waited a few minutes and had to get to bed. Only 3 hours of sleep today before I had to to back to work :/

 

Its a one way invite, you get to see them online, but if they dot add you to your they dont see you online.

He is new to SC2, I cant want to 1v1 Wingnut I think that would be a really fun match win or lose no matter to me.
