Hey everyone, first time poster and new to this so don't rip me apart :D I'm currently using a HP Pavilion dv6000 for both Uni and as my Gaming computer. I'm looking to play Starcraft 2 once it comes out, however I know that my notebook is going to hold me back

So my question is regarding upgrading my laptop to what type of graphics card and memory boost ect. to be able to run Starcraft 2 with a decent frame rate, smooth and playable 20+ but doesn't have to be perfect 60 or anything.

    HP Pavilion dv6000
    Vista
    system model dv6700 notebook pc
    AMD Turionn(tm) 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2cpus) ~2.0GHz
    3006MB RAM
    Directx 10

    Display Adapter: NVIDA GeForce7150M / nForce 630M

I'm willing to spend the money on whatever upgrades it takes to be able to have Starcraft 2 playable, but am still a college student and would like to spend only for the best bang for my buck :)

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry pal, you can't upgrade your laptop's graphics card, just as 99% of laptops on the market.

Either buy a new laptop with decent hardware setup that's for gaming, or spend the money on a gaming desktop, which is a lot cheaper than a gaming laptop.

@OP, I have dv2610us which has the same specs basically, and can only show it as a picture (zero FPS LOL). You will prolly be able to run it on low settings at most because you have 3gb to cover for the IGP, whereas I have 1gb which isn't enough to cover. I was able to get low at pretty decent FPS on my desktop though, which has 2.01ghz AMD Athlon 64 3200+, Radeon9600PRO 256mb, and 1gb ram, for the beta (phase 1 vs AI).

Yeah, I'm able to play the Beta with about 7-10 FPS but it can get bad as low as 2-3 FPS at times so no matter what its not gonna work. Seems as though I'm gonna have to resort to a desktop to play it..

Nm, you can't handle it either, even with 3gb ram? Must be the CPU. AMD really does suck when it comes to CPUs. My desktop's single core 3200+ trumps the TL-58 1.90dual core any day. So sad so sad.

You serious? heheheh. Unfortunately, it'd be a waste of money for us :(. Our laptops are too old (the CPUs suck). We really do appreciate your suggestion though. Looks like the OP is like me, having to shop for a new comp.

Yeah its not gonna play with that CPU. Id say sell the notebook and build a desktop or buy a second hand core 2 duo notebook with a reasonable gpu or the ability to upgrade toa DIY vidock. Have a look on the for sale section on here cos there are often good bargains.

If your going to do an external GPU via the expresscard slot then consider a ~US$300 GTX460-768MB DIY ViDock. It offers excellent bang-per-buck.

It's not that we really need the GPU, but its more of a CPU+Ram upgrade. You're totally right though, he should just aim for a new lappy instead.
