Starcraft 2 Beta?

Wasn't Starcraft 2 beta supposed to open back up for a couple weeks sometime this week? I loaded up SC2 beta and it didn't try to update or anything it just said it didn't recognize it.

 

not up yet.

it was supposed to be last week.

then it was supposed to be the 1st.

now it's supposed to be "eventually" or something.

but yeah there should be 2 weeks of beta before release

 

They really should just release a demo. I refuse to buy a game like this if I can't try it.

 

It's starcraft 1 running at 17-33% higher than fastest speed (what you play SC1 at online usually) with a completely different metagame.

and it looks pretty and it's 3d.

 

Just call it Starcraft with 3D graphics (welcome to 2010 already, sheesh) and you get the idea.

 

They prob will. After the game is released... Demos of products taht arent done yet? yea not gonna happen.

 

agreed- a demo will just delay the actual product even further at this point. there may be some kind of demo after release, maybe.

 

From personal experience playing Starcraft II Beta, I can say that it is a worth successor of Starcraft. Those of you who believe that it is just Starcraft I but with 3D graphics...you are partly right. There a plenty of new refreshed units and abilities for Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. Hotkeys are also much better in Starcraft II. When I tried playing Starcraft I again...it was unbearable.

Also, the new Battle.net is amazing too! I have mine on pre-order, and waiting for my Envy 14 to come in as well on July 13 =D

So beta can't be that far behind from being re-opened.

 

Well, at this point I would think the "pre-release" code we'd be using for "beta" would be pretty darn close to the final thing if not the final pressed DVD's. They'd just want to open up the system for stress testing. I wouldn't be surprised if they opened it up to everyone for two weeks just to stress test.

 

if anything, the version of the beta code would be newer than the version pressed on the dvd

 

yeah. there's gonna be a day 0 update. that's for sure

 

cant wait got my collectors edition pre ordered but now im waiting for my new laptop to come in as I sold my m17x. lol. im on a desktop, pentium 4 extreme 4.0ghz 1 gig ram 256mb 6800 gt geforce card. I dont think my card will play sc2.

it was doable but..yeah...kinda sucked.


also fps dropped down to below the 30s if there were a ton of guys in one area.

 

cant wait for this. hopefully my envy 14 will be able to play this on ultra flawlessly.

 

I don't know why everyone is so bent on playing SC2 on ultra when it doesn't make a whole lotta difference. This is Starcraft. People put up with a 2D sprite engine for over 12 years, all of a sudden they need whamo zing super ultra 3D graphics. Everyone tells me SC is all about the gameplay. Apparently not.

 

I downloaded the beta a little late... I started downloading it the day it was going off (Assuming it was the date that downloads were no longer going to be availible) and then when trying to log into battle.net, it would never connect

 

Because the beta is down already...

 

This has to be the most exclusive beta I Can remember. Only a few months to the full game anyway.

Cant wait, probably will leave all my other games in the dust and become obsessed with SC2 custom games and maybe try to make some maps myself.

 

The map editor's fun to be tinkered around with x3 Tons of stuff I need to learn to use there though :x

Won't be surprised if Vicious makes a custom game himself

 

The wait for SC2 has been insanely long. Soon as I get it i'll run it on my old desktop even if that means low settings cause I just can't wait anymore!

Did anyone else also take off the next few days after release for this? Or am I crazy? haha

 

This will most likely be the first game I preorder.

Does it normally arrive the day it comes out? In this case, July 27th? I can't imagine it not, i would rather risk it and hit a few stores early.

 

I don't know much about the map editor, but I'm wondering if DOTA type maps will be possible, since SC2 does not have "heroes" like WCIII did.

 

I recall someone making a dota-like custom map for SC2 ._.

That's all built into the sc2 engine, but turned off.


or well EXP and levels are anyway. Items can be created (people already made some proof of concept ones two weeks after the editor came out).

oh wow sc2 map editor must be amazing

 

only downsides were (though this may have been beta only) a 10mb map limit and 20mb total uploaded limit and a 5 uploaded maps per account limit.

 

that has to be beta only or else that would really suck

 

Well, it's at least better than warcraft 3's 4mb map size limit for online play.

 

Woot I have the ce pre-ordered.. Excited hopefully mac support with open gl gets better over time but guess I'll just be boot camping..

well pre-ordering the game awhile ago got you a beta key (if you did it from gamestop) not so sure that's going on now.


otherwise there were some keys that were given out from the opt-in.

and then the opt-in people got two waves of recruit a friend keys. the second wave being two keys (first was one key).


and then there were all the facebook keys being given away (that were used up in a matter of 3 seconds).


if ya dun have one now ummm...*shrugs* may just have to wait.

how might one get their hands on the sc2 client?

also, is it true that there wont be chat rooms in sc2? if so, that is really disappointing. i wonder why they would do this.

 

patch is up for all realms.

you may need to recreate your realmlist.stf file (if you reinstall from scratch, and/or if other things happen)

I had to do that to get it to download the patch.

im not talking about the patch i mean where can i download the actual game so when the beta comes up ill be ready

 

you got a battle.net account with a beta key? you can find the installer there like you would any other b.net game you registered to your account (it uses the blizz downloader to get it).

oh but you're gonna also need to setup the realmlist.stf file.

it'll be in program files (no x86) if you are on win 7 32-bit

 

i have a battle.net account but no beta key. and that link doesnt work. i googled download starcraft 2 beta and got a link to a sc2 beta installer. it was for the closed beta though hopefully it will still work after the patches.

 

eh. it's all the same installer I think.
