This game has me really confused. My 1645 is definatly no slouch and my internet connection is really fast

But i constantly am nearly last to load. My friends 09 macbook pro 2.5 ghz core 2 duo is always 5 - 10 seconds faster then me. Anyone else experience long load times and beaten by friends with slower machines? What else contributes to the load times?

    Cpu
    HD
    Internet

    What else?

The load bar you see in multiplayer isnt very accurate. Just cause it shows someone as loaded doesnt mean they actually are. Ive seen in load super slow randomly and super fast. IT really depends on the people who are also loading from what ive seen. If someone in the group has a crappy computer every's load times will be wonky.

hard drive. you are probably playing against people with desktops, and consequently hard drives that are much faster and much larger than yours. load time does not effect in game performance, so i wouldn't worry about it.

load times for sc2 are weird.

your first game will always take awhile to load.

your next games may not take quite as long.

^ This. Your first map after your start up Starcraft 2 (ESPECIALLY campaign levels) will take forever to load, but after that future games should load much much faster. I've noticed that if you get the same map a few times in a row in multiplayer, the map will load almost instantly.

It could even be drivers. I know with BC2 there was an issue where ATI cards used to take almost a minute to load a map, now its down to 10 seconds or so just with new drivers.

Your friend probably has a 7200rpm HDD, that would most likely cause the slightly slower load time.

No joke ... I'm in Toronto, too, and I've noticed I'm almost always last to load. I don't have an ultra-awesome gaming computer, but it is new (i5 450M, nvidia GT 335M,7200RPM HD), and I just can't believe that my machine is slower than everyone else's. I have DSL with Bell - 12Mbps/1 Mbps (or maybe 7 Mbps up), but I know my real world speeds are probably no where near there. I assume that if the load times mean anything, and I really am the last to load, it's due to either b.net's handling of Canadian acccounts or our crappy, Third World-esque internet service.
