Well, I finally caved and bought SC2. I was playing Age 3 on steam for a while, but it seems like the community is pretty small now. I really enjoy age but one thing I don't like too much is having to level up your home cities in order to get the best cards. In my opinion this discourages people from trying all the civs just because they know they'll have to spend a lot of time leveling up their home cities.
Anyways, I decided to get SC2 to play with my buddies back in the states, and I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for SC2 resources. Such as build orders, recorded games, strats etc. Do any of you have any favorite sites that you would recommend? Thanks in advance.

Day9 has a decent analytical video serious on youtube, but it's rather long winded content compared to the analysis you get.
The teamliquid site has a video stream section where all sorts of players, including many professional players, have live streams. Occasionally, professionals or really good players will give commentary and analysis live while they play.
There are also quite a few people who cast games regularly and put the videos on youtube, with varying levels of analysis. -

Baka beat the viking 3 out of 3 last I checked.
I used to like Day9 but now I think I cant stand him. At first he seemed like a genius but after watching enough of his videos I find he is just way more of a media expert than a SC2 expert. I found that he would constantly contradict himself.
One show is an hour long about keeping your money at 0 and how saved resources are wasted resources, how you should not get more buildings than what you need as any extra buildings are wasted money.
A month later the show will be about how you should make more buildings than you need to replenish your army faster etc.
I cant be bothered to come up with all the specific examples, but there have been so many times that he totally changed his advice or point of view on how to play that my final opinion is that he is just talking out of his methane hole. The fact that he has a subscription service and all this other jazz now further enhances my belief that he is just in it for the media aspect and not as much into it for the game anymore. -
Baka was sure the viking was going easy on Baka ._.

A few thoughts:
1. He's definitely a SC2 expert
2. He can be extremely annoying, situationally
3. He doesn't contradict himself in the way you are describing
4. You should keep your money as low as possible during the early stages of the game, through the middle. In the late stages of the game, you can hit 200/200 and it's suddenly not possible to produce out of your structures. There's no choice but to start banking money at this point. Getting additional buildings at this stage in the game, depending on how it has played out, can be a necessity. You do want to remax faster. It's still in the spirit of spending your resources - the game theory changes when you are capped on production. I think this is just a misunderstanding.
5. He does have an optional subscription service (you don't need it). He does SC2 full time. "Subscribers receive extra bonuses such as fancy chat badges, chances to play monobattles with Day[9], and other bonus content." I think he just realized that this was smarter than begging for donations. I wouldn't worry about it, since all of the content is free. Other successful people in the SC2 also monetize using similar methods. Pros tend to put up ads on their streams, for example. Does that mean they are in it for the money? Well, in part, yes. They're also doing it full time. You can certainly excuse people for needing to eat. -
if you are a complete noob and can stand annoying people blabbering on and on about the most insignificant stuff, watch day9.
if you want to actually become a top player, watch some top tier game replays (not casted replays) and PRACTICE. -
If you actually want to have fun, then don't play ladder, just play mods.

unless you find the ladder fun. it's very competitive, though. you won't ever escape the fact that you're going to lose about half your games, but you can get better.
-
Day 9 helped my game out a lot before I got bored of ladder games and quit SC2. Particularly his "newbie tuesdays" episodes. I never noticed any inconsistencies in what he was teaching. Plus, he's entertaining to watch.

if you're not a competitive person ladder is not for you. and the custom games in sc2 are pretty bad compared to wc3
