It shows how many wins you have, not losses. However, there is a points system, so if you lose, you lose points.

This is explained at length in this post: SC2 Ladder Analysis: Part 2
The "favored/unfavored" indicators in the loading screen are not based solely on the MMR. It doesn't mean much. It does indicate how your ranking will change, but it's basically comparing your MMR against their ranking (iirc). Both players see the "favored" indicator in the loading screen.
The ranking system doesn't make any sense. That is true. The matchmaking works pretty well, though.
The game definitely tracks both wins and losses. It may only display wins, I'm not sure if they've changed it recently. It doesn't take a set amount of time or wins to move across leagues. You have to consistently win against players from the higher league to move your MMR up enough for the game to switch you. -
This thread made me boot SC2 up again for the first time in months. Played two games, one one, lost one, but remembered why I quit. My heart is racing and I have a bit of a headache. Too much going on all the time.

zerg, because its the hardest and most challening race

LOL. My thoughts exactly. It's too much stress and work for a game. Not a whole lot of fun involved.

This game definitely seems to require a load of research. Watching replays, reading strategies, memorizing build orders and maps. But i actually enjoy really competitive games like this. It kind of reminds me of how I was with Halo 2 and Age of Empires II. Unfortunately now I dont have the time that I used to have back in high school, so I probably wont get quite as crazy as I was with those games.
