I have the new uber G700 mouse. What kind of macros would one newb Terran use on said mouse? Is there a way to target command center, build scv, target last unit controlled? Aka, a way to seamlessly build SCV's with a click of the mouse that won't affect my gameplay? Same with other units, and kittens. Any other helpful kitten loving macros?

I will write up a kitten punting macro for you later. Punt a kitten over 100 feet at the touch of a button!
Anyways back to SC2 something that may or may not exist, is there a way to control the orientation of terran buildings? As when you are trying to wall in the way the barracks fits is really important and I wonder if you can control it to some extent because I swear I have seen them in different orientations. -
But that takes out the funnest part of kitten punting - the actual punting!
Though I guess I am sometimes too busy playing Starcraft to give my cat the punt she deserves.
And as far as building orientation: nope, can't do it. It should only matter for add-ons, which unfortunately only ever go on the lower right hand side. Sucks for when you want to wall of your base on the left side of the map but leave room for add-ons later.
You may have seen a terran building flying and thought it was on the ground. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Yeah its the add-on sometimes the way it fits sucks. No add on or leave room for it and the add on is vulnerable to attack and may leave a space until its completed.
-
I've actually lost a game because I had to lift off my walling barracks to place an addon, and the other guy's zerglings got through right at that second.
Pissed me off like crazy!! -
lol id say to protect against that again, just send ur marines down the ramp and make sure no lings down there first!
-
Hey guys, I'm still a beginner (maybe borderline intermediate?) and just played my first placement match. I've been playing a lot of the practice matches, but the speed was starting to get to me. Here's a link to my replay
Delta Quadrant.SC2Replay - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download
Would this strategy work on an intermediate player? I chose Terran and my opponent was Protoss (he chose Random). I started by building refineries on his gas geysers and proceeded to harass with Reapers. Big thanks to Snowm0bile and his link to 'creative SC2 plays!' -
LOL, second game won with the same tactic. Worked for me about 40% of the time in SC, seems to continue to work. I guess it's a good way to practice build orders and getting stuff done as quickly as possible. But I would be creamed normally in any other game against someone with some skill.
-
decided not to buy this after the trial my friend gave me lol, too many protoss ppl just futzin around my base with cannons and gateways.
-

You probably will not see that in gold & higher. I have not seen it in a while.
Plus when it does happen its a fun victory when you punish them for cheese. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
Its happened to me 2 or 3 times. The moment I drop a supply depot or lift a barracks the zergling train runs into my mineral line.
These days I usually get seige tanks now before I move out and that prevents it because the tank will fire if anything is close as a warning, also does great against bainling busting. -
finally got a macro set up to spawn larva at my hives on my mouse5 button. Kicks having my larva always spawning and ready to go.. SWARM UP!
-
Mind me asking for details on that? What are you using for creating/running the macros?
-
lol i just constantly put my computer to sleep then turn it back on and repeat. 95% of them leave and i get victory or all of us get nothing but an error.
-
I know in BW u could unplug ur cable and make him wait forever or w/e, but im pretty sure if ur gone for the time limit u lose, there is no "error" except maybe on ur end. It's actually better that u didnt decide to buy the game. People like u degrade the game. Learn to play, or dont play at all. If someone cannon rushes u, its the easiest thing in the world to defend against....but that takes requiring to learn.. -
How do you counter a Protoss canon rush as Terran early in the game? (I'm a newb)
-
I have the same question. Please enlighten us!
-
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
First scout it if possible. Since you should be walling in your base you should have a depot up early and see a probe enter the base.
Do a perimeter check and see if there is a probe/pylon if there is kill it and your good.
If you see a forge or nothing in the protoss base you know a cheese tactic is coming.
If you dot not find the probe/pylon before cannons start, a simple bunker with marines in it will halt any cannons getting closer put a few around the base he cant spawn new cannons because they will be shot down by the marines before it can warp in. Take advantage that he waisted all his minerals on cannons and get some units out and counter. You can get tanks very quickly too that will easily destroy all the cannons without any damage to yourself.
Terran is the easiest to defend against this probably, if all else fails load up scvs into your command center and just fly to another base.
Even if walled in you can also easily get units out via dropships. So if you skip the tanks to blast your way out and just go heavy military you can do a drop in his base and take the game.
It shouldn't be too hard to beat a cannon rush as Terran at all, Zerg would have the hardest time and do have the hardest time defending early on because they have no wall in and the least amount of options/units to counter. -
Vicious pretty much covered it, but in the case that u have no marines out yet, make sure to send like 4-5 scvs to destroy the pylon and at the same time run off the probe and try to kill it.
it takes awhile to destroy the pylon but u should have dmged it enough to where a marine just has to shoot it a few times while u send ur scvs back to minerals.
I remember doing it well with zerg when i was playing in beta, kid really thought he was going to get me, but i saw it, sent some drones to take down the pylon. Pylon finished, and he still tried to warp in cannons, right before cannon finished, pylon went down. that one was easy
Ive gone against a few others where he proxy gateway and pretty much was stuck in my base, so sent nydus to his base... end game since nothing was even at his base except scvs. lol -
Huh? How did you have nydus so early?
-
i'll just buy it just because then
learn to play or dont play at all; lol is your attitude like that for everything?
don't have time to learn it, that's why i resort to the quick way
it's a different type of deterrence in my eyes. they can choose to quit the game anytime they wish.
plus I only do the disconnect thing when the guy who's doing the proxy "strategy" is trolling at the same time. Extremely annoying. -

The problem with an eye for an eye is everybody ends up blind. -
That, and there's other things that'll do that too. At least that's what my mom told me.
-
MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION!!
Anyway, I'll probably just look up some vids on how to counter these things, if I can't do it, I just accept the defeat anyway. -
using a Razer Orochi/DeathAdder - and I'm using the Razer provided drivers/software to create the macros and assign them to a mouse buttong.
macro is backspace, 6 (my hotkey for queens), v
hotkey the queens and it will auto center on your hatch, select queens and the nearest one will inject. so I click mouse5 and left click the centered hatch, click mouse5 again to auto center on the next hatch and click on the next hatch and it will auto inject. so injecting say 3 hatches just requires mouse5/left click and repeat 3x really fast. -
Three in a row, lol. Same damn strategy, simple and dirty, but apparently effective. It was TvT, enemy concentrated on battlecruisers. Sounds great, but I had like 100 maxed out marines and half dozen strategically placed missile turrets that took out his six or so battlecruisers and that was it.

Man we gotta play now!
I have to see how you have improved! -
Improved, lol, no. Just got lucky. I lost my nine games in a row using the same tactic. Now it's starting to level out, like I said I was about 40% successful with Brood War with the same strategy.
It was good playing with you and histidine though this evening. You guys are gods. I just turtle and hope for the best, lol. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
We are both platinum, he has a higher W/L ratio than me, but FFA is a tricky beast.
That first game I almost took him out right away, I really took out his whole base but let some drones run away.
I then got leveled by your force and when I had nothing left there is histidine knocking at my door with a large army of roaches/hydra and some zerglings. I just started to get my collosi out too that would have saved me but they had no units to back them up.
2nd game, he wiped me early and then you took out my expo
3rd game is when the luck went my way, I guess he was fighting with you and had you almost wiped and then my zergling/bainling army went into his main and took him completely out of the game.
I left one structure for him alive so he could stay in the game and not have to wait outside the game like I did the first 2 games.
I normally like to turtle some in FFA and then come back near the end and mop up but with only 3 of us that was not much an option.
Had a lot of fun despite the numerous AFK I had to take due to phones ringing or people needing me. I hope we do it again soon, better yet if I am at home with my wine and nothing to distract me.
Seems Zerg was the prevailing force tonight. That was the first time I had ever gotten Ultralisks before, I figured they would do good against your tanks and ground force. You would have to tell me lol since I was too busy to really see them do there thing.
@ Histadine we really need to do some 1v1 and maybe some 2v2 sometime, I think we are close in skill level so should be a good match up. -
yeah, I got lucky a couple times. I just scanned a spot and saw it was an expansion, once for you and the other Histidine. I had a dropship loaded with marines so just decided to see if I could take out your expansion at least and Histidine too, seemed to work.
I wasn't sure what to do with those damn ultralisks. I think I really needed a couple battle cruisers because they could attack from the air and not be touched by them, but to no avail. Neither one of you had a predominant air force, if I knew that I would have taken to the air sooner with battlecruisers and maybe had a better chance.
And yeah, I was struggling to survive when he just suddenly left, is when I guess you started attacking him. Thanks.
That saved my butt for a few minutes at least.
Good fun though, thanks for playing. Time for bed, waaaay too late for me again. Kids will be screamin in my ear in a few hours now... gah.
g'nite. -

I have been getting like 3 hours of sleep a day for a while. I feel your pain. I didnt even touch SC2 today at home was to dead tired to think about it so I was in TV mode, the activity I could do that required the absolute least amount of energy and consciousness, but still let me watch the kids.

Anyone wanna practice with me? I'm still pretty new at this game and still learning. If anyone wants to be a practice partner or whatever just post or pm me with your friend code and name etc.
Anyway so, I'm a beginner and play terran. Need practice against any race. -

Any suggestions on what to do against fast marauders with concussive shells as protoss? I had some guy come in really early with two of these, and I just gg'd out... (had only one stalker, and couldn't micro due to slow...)
-
Scout better. If you see the tech lab and gas, it's reapers, or marauders, either way, stalker+sentry. you need the sentry to wall your ramp or break up his marauder balls.
-
Hey guys I have decided to do some replay analyzing.
If you feel like you need to improve a few things, email me ur replay and ill take a look at it and tell you what is wrong.
Send me a PM for my email and I will get ur replay analyzed asap.
Sound good?
-
Absolutely. How should we upload them?
-
naw, just send it in ma email. the file sizes are low for replays so its not a big deal.
-
I already know what I'm doing wrong most of the time, and sometimes its just that I can't keep up. I know what I NEED to do but just can't execute fast enough, or can't remember on top of my head how to advance to said tech.
-
Forget scouting. Assume that he is going 2 rax with 2 tech labs, and he'll go into my base as soon as he gets 2 marauders (and sending in two more at a time whenever they're ready).
By the time the first two reach my base, I think I'll have at most two stalkers... and they basically get demolished by 2 marauders with slow. -
Assuming your army is far far away, what's the correct procedure in dealing with harassing helions? Someone told me that because they're low in HP, you should get your workers to attack them? And they said running away (with workers) is the worst possible thing to do since they flee in a line... is that right?
(I clearly don't watch enough pro replays) -
Well... the best thing to do is spread ur workers into different directions.
If you have no units out to deal with it, you need to come up with a new plan because u should def have units out if they have hellions.
Attacking them with ur workers can also be the worst possible thing, if ur units are no where near. The best thing to do is, split them up and then run them towards ur army, while ur army is running towards them.
On another note, whats the best screen recorder to use for sc2? Anyone have any suggestions? Was thinking about commentating some of ur replays. =) Fraps? I havent used fraps in so long, does it actually have option for microphone enabled?
I get really bored at work here, only fly a few hours a week and then do nothing but sit here in case emergency. -
Okay so im trying to find the best hotkey combination to use for control groups (for terran).
Basically right now I do:
1 - MMM
2 - mech
3- air?
4 - ghosts or whatever else other units i have.
5 - cc's (OC's)
6 - production buildings
I think the main problem is that i try avoiding further keys because they are hard to reach when i really would need them, but i also need more keys for units. I think i need to start separating my marines/maraduers into separate groups so i dont send my marauders to fend off void ray harass too for example. Any suggestions? -
try adding marines to 2 and then push everything back one, then for CC add it to 7,8,9 so u dont have to aim to one key. practice new ways with AI
-
But 7 8 9 are so far away! I'll wait for 1.1 before moving. Custom hotkeys ftw!!

hmm gotta do the spinning terran building next time i am terran and gong to lose just so i can get a wth? out of my opponent
-
That terran building spin is ridiculous, lol. Yeah, I'll have to do that and freak out the opponent. I should just move my base over theirs early in the game and do that just to freak them out. I'll lose, but maybe they'd quit thinking there's a glitch.
-
lol that's awesome as hell. I've been trying the challenges, and man, the gold is difficult. I tried the top 3 and did the one where you have a squad of ghosts and ravens. It was difficult at first, but then I realized I could nuke my way through it and got gold. I did the one where you're Protoss fighting 4 areas with only hotkeys. Like the other, hard at first, but then I figured out what warp prisms were and realized my units weren't confined to one zone if they could travel, so I sent my carriers to other areas. High Templars are damn hard to micro.
