So I'm in the practice league on SC2 and I've played 3 matches. I've lost every single one. So almighty SC2 masters, please lend me your aid! Here's what I do (trying to get Terran down first I know its noob)
-Build a few SCVs. I don't build other command centers but people tell me to.
-Keep building supply depots. I don't know when your supposed to stop building units..or if your not even supposed to stop
-Build random units. Someone wiped me off the face of the map with an army of Thors and Marauders..my entire army gets wiped out in like 10 seconds. every single time. Is there like a specific number of something I should build? or should I just be a noob and build a massive army of marines >![]()
-What should I do with specific units? I really like Thors. lol. And which ones are completley useless and I shouldnt waste resources on?
-how do i properly defend my base?
any other tips i would love you
i suck at strategy games and I really like SC2 I can't stop playing it even though I keep losing. So someone help a fellow out!

There's a starcraft 2 tips buried somewhere back a few pages you know
- Build additional orbital commands if you have too much extra minerals. If you expand just float one of the extras you have and send in all the mules to saturate before your workers get there for a huge income spike. Keep your resource line saturated too. If opponent loves mass zerglings, build one planetary fortress at a choke or something and let it hold out. It's a worthy investment.
- Keep building supply depots when you need them or plan to mass up an army. Early on mineral management is strict so slow down on building them but keep supply count and unit production in mind to not supply block yourself. Say you plan on making marauders and marines off 3 barracks means that your supply count will increase faster so you'll have to build extra supply depots in advance. Only stop building units when you get to 200/200A good player keeps the pressure on his opponents while trying to keep losses to a minimum though so you'll free up a few supply during a quick move to scare them.
- Army of Thors and marauders? That simply means you were being too defensive/passive that he can mass that amount of thors. Marauders are easily taken out by banshees or siege tanks (As long as you protect the tanks). Keep track of what the opponent's army is and if he's planning to mass big units like thors or battlecruisers it means he'll need a lot of time. Snipe the units one by one to prevent them from reaching critical mass.
- There are no useless units in the game. Thors are good but massing them is easily countered. Unit diversity to counter your opponent is key to winning. Just stick to each unit's strong points.
- Terrans don't do massive pushes. They do slow pushes by inching their siege tank line bit by bit and not unsiege all of them, move so close to the enemy that they kill you before your siege tanks sieges up. Abuse their range (Their range is actually so far that it goes into the fog of war. If you know the opponent's army is just nearby within range of your tanks but in the fog of war just slowly scoot over a medivac or something to give vision). Place supply depots if you can afford to at side entrances or use sensor towers to prepare for side attacks. Terran isn't that mobile so knowing where your opponent is located is key to defending.
Other tips? Practice practice practice. Focus on macro first then micro. Oh, if you need someone to practice with, just ask any of the NBR members. Though we're not godlike or anything but we're still okay as practice partners. Just stay away from farful he hacks(Naw jk but he's really good). There's a SC2 friends list database for you to add us and we do the NBR SC2 every week whenever we can so join up

Why does Reizo always beat me? *sigh*
Also: Expect to lose your first dozen games (if not more). It's really about practice at first, not about winning. I can refer you to many people here on NBR who have lost their first x games, but now have a general idea of what's going on -
Tigers are just so quick >:3
Don't get depressed on losing. htwingnut loses a lot of his games and is still playing and improving. Heck he beat farful and me too -
hehe Reizo I knew you'd be first on this
Thanks so much! I really do need to keep practicing, I'm good at strategy I just need to figure out all the different features of the game and all the abilities everything has. Micromanaging seems hard..but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I just hope I'm good enough by the time i get through all 50 matches of the practice league. -
Don't worry, I haven't improved a lick. I suck, so I just play games where I can have fun. Mainly against rocks, amoebas and long protein strands...
-
There's always AIs to practice with too you know ._.
How'd you know I'd be first on this >:[
A SPY! -
LOL. you guys should add me on battle.net
edit: i just decided that it probably wasnt a good idea to post that. so i removed it -
Eh...

There's http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...504286-starcraft-2-friends-list-database.html if you want to see a list of peeps from NBR. You should add yourself so they can find you
-
haha well maybe you guys can help me get good
-
Play against farful and he'll pound into you how to be an awesome SC2 player
I'm on right now actually lurking on SC2 for a bit >.> -
until 5:30 west coast
then i will be on -
Who doesn't suck at Starcraft II?
I'll be on at around 5:30 as well. If you want to play.
Add me. TakeItEasy.492 -
idk how to add you your not giving me an email or anything. same with reizo idk how to add you guys lol -
-
so thats why i post so much on here, just fyi -
Honestly, i tried to be good.
You need to:
1.) watch replays
2.) dedicate a crapload of time practicing
3.) watch good players (observer mode)
4.) dedicate a crapload of time
Honestly, you have to realize how much time these pro gamers put into playing this game -
To add just go to the friends list ingame, add a friend and then add using their character name and code
-
eh, i got what, 47 matches left in the practice league. ill beat the campaign first for extra practice then get to it. this is the last time i buy like 10 games at the same time -
It's [email protected] -
-
Lose fast, lots.
-
Ooooh also do the first terran challenge mission. I think that's a good one. You'll learn about units and what counters what.
-
farful is my hero
btw, you also have the laptop i wish i bought. except the fact that optimus tech doesnt let me play bad company 2 online. punkbuster thinks optimus is hax... -
farful's my hero and nemesis
-
When we do some practice matches? -
Btw, Reizo, the 3way FFA we played with Theros where you tried to zealot rush me... Theros ended up winningThus your plan on making Farful lose was quite a success indeed. Too bad you ragedquit!
-
P.S: At least Reizo lost first, that's the good thing -
Oh yeah, and even though it's probably slower at first, learn hotkeys!
Take the time to hover over the marine icon (when you have the barracks selected) then see what the hotkey is, then press it. This is way slower at first since you have to figure out what the hotkeys are, but well worth it. -
-
Yeah, got get better you have to play a lot and frequently. I only play about 3-5 games a week. You should play that much a day to get half way decent.
-
I play 1-2 games a week... Barely
Depends if anyone asks

Heh, he may be a Tiger but he Hibernates like a Bear sometimes!
Speaking of hotkeys, I recommend for new people to use GRID it makes it easier to learn esp if you play more than one race since they stay the same. -
-
I always rage quit. I have anger problems
-
-
That's why I don't play WoW
-
Heed Reizo's advice. He's one helluva SC2 player. >_<
That said, if GI Joe has taught us anything, it's that knowing is half the battle. Send scouts and scan whenever you can to figure out what your opponents are building and counter it as best you can. Better yet, save and post your replays for us to analyze and comment on. -
Go on youtube and watch some videos for SC2 newbies, they really help.
-
Not really. I watched and never helped me.
-
I watched a lot, learnt a lot but still suck so much
-

Well, easier said than done. I watch replays but to actually incorporate those to yourself, its hard.
-
of course i dont think ill be doing much 1-60 leveling, i have to get my 3 raiding characters from 80-85! -
That's because you are not Korean

scouting, hotkeys, counters, and economy management will increase your chances at winning games.
just remember to never have more than 1000 minerals or gas at any given time. that is waaaay too much to have in stock. it means you're not building when you could be.
hotkeys will save your life - they're much faster than clicking around. and intuitively understand the hotkeys. sending your units to "attack" an area will cause them to fight on the way there. sending your units to "move" to an area will cause them to fight, after they're there. use that to your advantage. don't "attack" to an enemy mineral line if you want your guys to just attack that (given that they have a path there that isn't blocked), rather, "move" to it. that way, your army isn't worrying about fighting his, and will be able to hit their mineral line.
remember to scout, early on, and throughout the game. send an SVC over to their base and watch what they build. keep some of your people near those towers so you can get ready for an attack. the game is about countering. you have marines early on which are the only unit that can fire from a range that early in the game - use that to your advantage.
don't focus so much on massing one particular expensive / heavy unit. thors are great. but more than 5 is overkill and expensive. you don't need that many to win.
learn which units counter what, and you should be able to play better.
also - above all... always have a plan. just don't start building away. have a plan before you go into the game. there are 3 races, so create three generic templates for what to do for each race. then when you need to adapt, you can, and if you can't, you already have some failsafe ready in the event you're unsure of what to do, which will help you gain more time in order to figure out your next move. -
I'm tempted to get into SC2, just haven't had the time to do so. I know how involved a game like this gets. I rarely can be content with being an "average" ranked player, so I tend to obsess sometimes.
I was ranked on every ladder but Solo at some point or another in Warcraft III. Took up lots of time.
I prefer the space setting to the fantasy setting that Warcraft uses, but the lack of "hero" units is really a turn off in theory to me. I loved the addition of heroes in Wc3 and I'm not sure I could do without. Just need to play and try it out I guess. -
Yeah, WC3 heros were a very interesting concept, but I guess it fits WC's story and gameplay better than SC's. Though I miss that one custom map, where 4 players battle through a city- RPG style, to "regain their souls" and be free. I'm still waiting for a SC2 custom game like that, though many, many good ones have appeared.
