I just received an email from Amazon saying I can now preorder SC2. Anyone know the release date yet?? Did I miss an announcement?

-
Id like to know this too. Only thing ive heard about starcraft 2s release date is that it will be before Diablo 3. That doesnt exactly narrow it down much.
-
EB Games has the same thing too. ( http://www.ebgames.com/catalog/productdetails.aspx?sku=647051). They have a price disclaimer on it though. I still think no information is out...unfortunately.
-
That would be nice, it should be awesome
.
-
Any official release information from Activision/Blizzard? If there isn't maybe the stores are prepping the masses early for the inevitable pre-order onslaught.
-
Yowsers, this game will be HUGE.
I'm going to be pre-ordering as soon as price is finalised. -
I've heard about the release date being 26th September... Don't know if they changed it again >.>
-
Best Buy's website still says November 3rd. Strange how both Amazon and EB allow preorders now. I would guess that at least means they are getting closer to knowing a release date.

i dont see all the fuss, it doesnt look that great having seen some videos of it but each to his/her own i guess
-
Have you played the original? Do you even like RTS games?
-
I would not put money down, for the preorder a Blizzard game, until a concrete date is set.
A billion copies will be pressed anyway. -

starcraft is great, most of the time i play fastest maps...however the 3d graphics and more units seems so exciting in sc2
-
price is still too high to buy

I went in to EB on the weekend to pick up Empire TW. While I was there I enquired about putting down a pre-order deposit on SC2. EB Dude advised me to wait. Although it is listed in their system there is still no fixed date or details on what versions will be released. I was after a Collector's Ed. of it. Even he was not impressed with the most recent in-game movies of it. I appreciated EB Dude's candor about it. Saved me a few dollars in chump change. -

This is a must get game for any fan of the original. I expect Bizz knows this and thus why they would open a pre-order so soon. Maybe they want a feel for the number of games needed so they do not fall short on release.
I expect the majority of people that would own this game are people that already plan on owning it, aka people that would pre-order. Unlike many games that just end up being spoted on a shelf and bought on impulse.
It could also just be a slip up and pre-order was not supposed to happen yet. -
Pre-orders mean NOTHING with Blizzard. They won't mention when it'll be out until it goes gold.
That's the one good thing about Blizzard, they refine until it's done and then refine after released and continue support for years afterwards. Granted, this also is a bad thing too because it seems they spend a year fine tuning an otherwise perfectly releasable game. -
I have to commend them though for that refining. Seems they make up for other developers' short-comings.
-
Blizzard can afford to spend so much time refining a game because WoW is the industry's biggest cash cow.
Unfortunately, few developers have such a luxury. -
Rest assured I will still be buying SC2 when it does get released. My university years are now behind me so there is no danger of failing grades as when I first bought Starcraft on it's inaugural release day. Ah...I remember that day well.

SC2 is going to be amazing, best RTS ever. On another note, I heard it was going to be release for Christmas 09.
-
As with ALL Blizzard games, never anticipate, just be surprised when it arrives.

I think if I think back to games that "wowed" me the most as a kid. Starcraft is up in the top 5 for sure. The sounds, graphics, and gameplay were unreal.
Shame starcraft never took off like WC3 did for battlenet, I hope that SC2 continues to run strong for many years like WC3 still does via custom games and maps. The competitive normal game play is fun once in a while but for a casual gamer like me I have no hope so I would rather have fun in a custom game.
I have to admit I think warcraft 3 atmosphere does leave more room to work with on a custom game since its theme is not so specific, lots of units and tile sets. I unfortunately did not like the move to WC3 from WC2 for normal gameplay, the heroes ruined it for me.
I have played some of the RPG custom maps that were better than RPG's for a system -
personally wasn't a fan of the graphics/story, but most people like it A LOT.
on release day I am predicting the following news headline
"Gamer Kills, for Bizzard's newest game" -
I had put down money for the pre-order back in December thru BestBuy... they sent me an update saying expect something late May... (maybe just another update from BB?) OR THE GAME?!!!!!!!!!!
-
How much is the preorder now? Couldn`t find it really.
Also, I`m guessing it`s just the Terran Campaign, and all 3 in Multi... -
Yes its just the Terran campaign, but all are allowed online. I can't say i agree with it but if each version is as long as the original, i guess the true fans can't complain. I'll likely only be getting 1 version.
-
Since it has been in development for so long, obviously the graphics will not be up to par as new RTS... but I think this will be the game that will pull many of us back from Starcraft/Counterstrike retirement.
-
I heard starcraft was even bigger overseas then here. it was almost like a cult there for awhile.
I liked starcraft and the original warcraft. warcraft 3 did nothing for me. I just didnt like the hero concept. -
They are GomTV, OnGameNet, Mbcgame
There are 2 major tournaments, OSL and MSL going on about 4 times a year. They offer something like $150,000 dollars to first prize.
There are ~12 progaming teams each with about half a dozen A team player, half a dozen B team player, and dozens of trainees waiting for these teams.
Tournament finals have rock concert like attendance. Indeed the stage is almost like that of one used in rock concerts.
Stating Starcraft is more popular overseas is slightly understating it
Also, for anyone who follows starcraft progaming,
Too bad Savior lost to Zero is MSL Ro8, but at least CJ Entus looks like its probably going to end up as 1st or 2nd seed in Proleague semifinals -
I'm 100% sure its coming out Q4 this year... Seriously they are cutting up the campaign into 3 games... There is no reason to not make Q4 this year.

I'm just surprised that they can fill TV with enough content on Starcraft gaming. It seems there's only a couple dozen successful strategies and for the "experts", games are over in like five minutes. My preference is to take time to build an army, improve units, then attack that way. In Starcraft you are way too susceptible to rushing, and IMHO that's no fun. I truly hope Starcraft 2 implements rush limits, or makes base defenses strong enough to withstand initial attacks without a problem. Or at a minimum offer a very significant handicap for the less ambitious player.

Someone is optimistic....
(FS is owned by Best Buy, btw)

I got a great deal then! I paid $60 for it.

There is always cheese, which is basically an all in strat. It would be like a 5 pool for Zerg, proxy 2 gate for the Protoss, or a proxy BBS for Terran. They can catch you off guard, but they are all in. Basically if you don't win with them, you'll definately lose.
As for all other strategies in progaming right now, they can all be relatively easily countered. The key against rushing is to scout and have good intel. It doesn't matter how many zergling the zerg has if you get like 2 firebats and a medic. They can throw a hundred zerglings at you and as long as you hold your ramp, you'll hold it. Meanwhile you can tech up.
Again, everything has a counter which is why Starcraft is still so popular. There is no imba strategy that almost always wins -
You make me feel old. Maybe my wife is right about the whole "you're 30 now no more video games!"
-
-
I work for a college and we have "internet cafes" spread around campus. Whenever I walk pass them the students are having a LAN party with SC. Makes me wonder if they even bother going to class.
