    Hey,

I just bought a new laptop and I'd like to get back into some PC gaming. I'd like some suggestions for strategy games to play. I'm looking for something with a focus on stategy and not army building, not overly complicated with a huge learning curve, and I prefer sci-fi/fantasty settings.

    I have a C2D 2.0 ghz, 8600 gt, and 2 gigs of ram
    Thanks

hmmm WarHammer 40k Dawn of War is pretty good...but thats more of a RTS. But good element of strategy with control points and such.

There are a lot of games that fit your conditions.

If you are looking for games that have an accent on buildings and improving your empire, Empire Earth and Civilization would suit you perfect (Civilization is a pretty complicated to learn how to play though, beacuse of huge number of available military, religion, politics and build options; however, there is a very large tutorial that explains almost everything, just if you are patient enough to listen and do all the things it asks). These games have militay and wars as well, of course, but the main accent is on building your empire.

Supreme Commander! Amazing strategy game with one of the best interfaces I've ever used. It is quite intense though.

Quite steep system requirements, your machine should be ok though at medium settings. Can't recommend it enough.

Try out demo's for games you're keen on trying. Can't go wrong with that approach!

Yeah from all the needless micromanagement of spies diplomats priests and assassins.

I love the games battles and army movement on strategic map, but I think Knights of Honor did a much better job with their strategic model when it comes to micromanaging your stuff, especially espionage and religion which is just a pain in MTW2.
