So i was wondering if there are any newer tactical shooters out there, that aren't just twitch like lightning speed reflex games, but more like gears, even tho i know that isnt super tactical... but i'm just looking for a game where i can basically run around stealthy like, and sniper quite a few people and use cover quite a bit... Just ask for some suggestions thx

rainbow six vegas employs the same cover system as gears of war. they are both based on the ut3 engine as well.

I was looking at that game but heard it didnt offer wide screen support or have good optimization for the PC... Have those been fixed in a patch?

somewhat. 16:9 widescreen support and it definitely runs better.

16:9 support obviously isn't perfect, but its really good. you can either take really tiny black bars or really minimal interpolation. you probably wouldn't even notice because they are only a few pixels off. its not like pushing a 1280x800 image on a 1440x900 screen.

there are still several patches to go before i should whole heartedly recommend it to anyone, but its getting there.

    Very fun and graphics-savagely game.

Also, try Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 1, Splinter Cell 2 (aka Pandora Tomorrow), and Splinter Cell 3 (aka Chaos Theory). The latest is Splinter Cell 4 Double Agent, and it's VERY VERY buggy. Not recommended for hot-tempered individuals. :)
Splinter Cell games are more Stealth than shooter, but the two factors both play a major part in the game.

But I have it for 360, I can't really comment on the way it plays on a PC, bt its definitely the type of game youre looking for. Simply brsting into a room just doesnt work half the time, you have to designate targets, the aggressiveness of your team mates, weapons, customize those weps, and more.... look into it, id highly suggest it.

K, does it have any good part in it where you can just go prone and take out a couple people with headshots? (That has to be one of the best feelings in the world, including the close range shotgun 1 shot as well)

EDIT: I mean like open level designs that allow this

Splinter Cell series? Yes, all of them offer plenty of opportunities to just go on a shooting rampage.

About Rainbow Six, are there any more patches sure to come out? I sure don't wanna buy a game if it's buggy with no fixes.

You can try out Ghost Recon 2 or GRAW. Those are some nice tactical shooters. (It seems you don't want stealth as much as tactical shooters.)

EDIT: WTF!? R6V is only $20?? Where?

And I second the SWAT series.

EBgames.com says 19.99 but i'm not too sure about that and i meant tactical in the title, but almost everything is becoming "tactical" so i wanted a bit more tactical and stealthy kinda stuff

Guess he doesn't like stealth that much, which is probably why he ignored all my posts.

Its PC version $19.99 on Amazon.

AmazingGracePlayer, I've just started the 3rd level of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and it's great. The Thief series were also pretty good stealth games as I recall.

One of the best shooters that I've ever played, with a stealth aspect, is 'Day of Defeat'. I prefer shooters with the option to pick a stealth class and be able to utilize cover away from the action and pick people off. 'Day of Defeat' gave that to me perfectly. Also, 'Sniper Elite' is a pretty good sniper game, though I only played it a few times and am not sure if it has decent multiplayer.

Yeah, but Thief games have sad endings... I think it's better if stealth games were open ended, and players are allowed to take on random assassinate _____ or retrieve _____ missions.

You´ve been recommended SWAT 4, and I couldn´t agree more, since it´s actually one of my all-time favorites.

You can die with a single shot, check doors before you break in, get points for not being hit AND most importantly, for capturing the bad guys WITHOUT killing them.

If you don´t mind the somewhat dated graphics engine (compared to Vegas, without a doubt) you should check it out if you truly want a gripping game.

One game to try is Far Cry - it's the best first person shooter ever created in my opinion. You can play the game countless ways. I play it stealth all the time - single shot with a silenced gun like the MP5, and the sniper rifle for far ranges. Such a great game. You should be able to get it real cheap.

Ok. I love the Splinter Cell series, and Double Agent, once patched, is bug-free in my experiences.

But the one I truly recommend is Hitman: Blood Money. Its a great shooter, in that you can be as violently twitchy shooter as you like, or a stealthy as you like. And the graphics are nice too (not as nice as SC :DA though), but its definitely a FUN game. Though, even on EASY, it still takes a few tries per level to not completely screw it up (being a newcomer to the series).

You should pick up Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory also. Its got amazing graphics, gameplay, AI, and multiplayer. Plus its probably dirt cheap since its been out for a while. That and Vegas should give you your stealth/tactics fix.

Im sorry, but im gonna be the one to suggest operation flashpoint. Its one of those games that almost has a cultish following to it, and at the same time has an anti-cult for it because some people swear against it bugginess and realism. Nevertheless, it is the best game of all time for the options of stealth, complete freedom to do anything, and stratagy involved at the same time.
I havn't tried ARMA the unofficial sequel yet, but i heard it isn't as good as the original OFP b/c its even more bugy. SO pick up OFP for like ten bucks at eb along with the essential resistance expansion which is like a continuation of the story mode and you can still go buy buy hl2 with the rest of your money.
