I've been wanting to play Rome Total War lately and I noticed that it was available on Steam, if I make an account and buy RTW through Steam am I able to play the game by myself, without other online players, or is Steam strictly for online gaming?

Also, is buying a game on steam just like buying a copy from the store?

I guess both question go hand in hand, I just want to make sure I know what I am getting before I buy it. Thanks.

Yes buying on steam is just like buying a cd in the store. Except you don't need to carry the actual cd with you everywhere you go. You can install it on any computer you want, and all you do is download the game.

And going thru steam you can play both the single player offline, or finding servers to play online with anyone else.
