Wasn't sure if I should post this in games or under deals. Steam trading cards will be exiting beta soon. Basically, if you play a game that has these cards, you can earn up to half a set just by playing.

A full set of cards for a game unlocks extra stuff/discounts/dlc. However, you can also sell your cards on the community marketplace. I was able to raise enough to buy arkham city and a few other games on sales (around $15 total)

here's a link to the marketplace so you can see what some of these cards are selling for

@ninja you had to sign up for steam beta to get access, but it should be live for everyone on wednesday. I wasn't too interested in them at first, until i found out you could sell them on the community marketplace. So if you find yourself a dollar or two short of a game you want to buy, you can sell one of them (and they seem to sell pretty fast)

Question #1: What are these, exactly? Tradeable game achievements? How does one obtain them and what is their use?

Question #2: Do you really expect these to hold value once they go out of beta and millions of people get them "just by playing" their games?

I guess I should withhold judgement until question #1 has been answered, though...

@fat dragon, you get them for every 20 minutes of play for a game that supports them. You also can get random packs and 'foil' versions of cards. I checked my inventory to see i had gotten a foil heavy card from TF2 - sold it for $2.25
