When will steam be offering mods?

Because I got a message saying it will be a leap further when they will release mods to games such as HL2... from steam... which means the steam console/box whatever... about 1-2 months ago

So you could download them through/in steam itself

Will they only offer popular/tested mods... user created or made by steam only?

What are you talking about? You mean the company Valve said they were going to be modding their own games? That doesn't really make much sense.

You can only download plenty of mods, and when you install them they are added to the Steam game list. Are you talking about being able to download mods through steam itself?

Yes, they announced they will have mods to download in steam itself
