So I attemped to load steam in offline mode the other day and apparently it was in the middle of an update or something the last time I had it online.

I've got no access to the internet with that computer. Anyway to bipass the update or manually start the steam games in offline mode?

    I don't think so.

    Offline procedure has been:
run each game prior to make sure all updates installed, then go offline while connected to internet.

I would try to get a quickie with internet access and then select offline mode once update completes.

    Keep us updated.

Sux, I made sure all the games were updated and ran fine offline...I guess I just forgot to make sure the client was fine. I probably won't have an internet connection for another month or so, if I can even get it.

This used to happen to me, and it would really really tick me off. Although I have noticed that it is not an issue after I opted into the BETA. Dono why but the beta seemed to make a difference.

If you're lucky, some games do not use a steam-modified binary, so you can simply search for the game data in your "steamapps" folder and try running the main application.

Or if they do use steam-modified binaries, you can sometimes find and replace the binary with the original (although read the EULA on modifications and delete it before going back online again)

Where do you get the binaries for the original?

you'd have to search around, ask someone who owns it, etc.

can't you somehow tether to a cell phone at least to get the Steam updates? I know it can be slow, but at least it would get you going.

Nope, besides that fact that cell phones are incredibly expensive to use over here (Afghanistan) I don't think any can connect to the internet.

The only place around here with WiFi is so slow steam doesn't even recognize im connected to the internet.
