No, you say it because the poster above you is not doing something correctly. I use Steam offline all the time when I travel as Internet service where I go can be unreliable and/or insecure.
As far as the poll goes, I want the best of both worlds. I want the ability to purchase a physical copy of a game at retail, then use the CD key to activate it via Steam. This way, I don't waste bandwidth downloading everything if I happen to uninstall the game and want to play it again at a later date. Or if I have a system crash and didn't have a backup - pop in the disc to reinstall, and the only thing that needs to be downloaded are any patches.

no mr mm is right but heck i cannot predict every bsod i will encounter and if it hapens on the move for X reason like your freefall sensor locking your HDD you then enjoy steam locking you out

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
^^ Yup Steams Offline mode is really unreliable for me also. Unless I was connected to the internet first, but some places I can't do that.

woah what a joy since i got my ssd i have seen only 1 bsod and i really have no idea what caused it but when i had a raid array it was quite common like you go on a 10 hours travel and the road is not perfect one of the drive's freefall sensor detect vibration lock itself BSOD
you then enjoy a reboot and oh guess what steam won't reboot your games and you are now 3 hours away from the closest internet conexion
i just prefer impulse for that you are not forced to have thier crappy background service running all the time -

Does Origin auto update games like steam?

STEAM FOR sure. I have so many games on it. I haven't went out and purchase a Game in a store forever lol. Why do I even need a hard copy? Is much much easier to have the game store on steam servers so when I get a new computer I don't have to go and try to find the CDs for my games. I can simply go to steam and download it. I can also talk and gift some games to friends if I want to.
If the games I want is not steam I simply won't buy it. -
Steam by far, Origin's terms of service seem very restrictive, for example your account can be cancelled for 2 years of inactivity. Steam seems to be a lot more lenient in that regard, although time will tell how EA treats their customers.
