AMD Radeon HD 8970M - NotebookCheck.net Tech
"the M290X is just a rebrand of the HD 8970M with identical performance"
I haven't followed AMD naming much but I'd guess they just changed name to go well with desktop models.
I'll also move this to the Gaming and Graphics cards forum. -
It can't be a rebrand because i compared the two via Radeon R9 290X vs HD 8970M and it shows different results

I can't get the site you're linking to load at all.Any_Key likes this. -
that site is comparing a desktop R9 290X with a mobile HD8970M
the mobile R9 M290X & HD8970M are the same cardAny_Key, saturnotaku, HTWingNut and 4 others like this. -
Your system driver probably does not recognize the M290x as the "R9 M290x", that's all. It needs to be updated.
It is basically an exact copy of the 8970M, but with a tiny boost in clock speed. In other words - it's an overclocked 8970M.Cloudfire likes this. -
another question why buying a so CPU limited machine ?

Like people above says, 8970M = R9 M290X.Jarhead likes this. -

and I will be a late number four.

If i may ask, Why does some games hardly get 30 fps?
-
Maybe you are using too high settings. -
Low framerate is becouse your CPU sucks, it bottlenecks the living crap out of that m290x.

Depending on which game though, the CPU may bottleneck it, but most games it should be sufficient. -
Any other way i can improve perfomance?
