Just wondering your opinions on a game with a great storyline. I just played a few games such as Prototype that didn't have much of a good story. Any suggestions for a good storyline game?
-
Half Life series, Fallout 3, BioShock and Assassins Creed come to mind. Try anyone of them out
-
Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic, Call of Duty 4 also has good singleplayer storyline, that will continue in Modern Warfare 2
-
I agree with the above and would like to add STALKER and the Fallout series to that list.
-
Dawn of War is another game with a quite decent storyline.
-
KotOR and Half Life are good recommendations. However, one of the best storyline games ever made would be Planescape Torment. Old, but like good wine, keeps getting better with its age.
-
All adventure games if you like that genre....
MYST series
Longest Journey series
Syberia
Grim Fandango -
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The main quest is fantastic, and there's a million side quests and a few expansions to keep it going. I've been playing it for about a month, and I'm not even close to done with all the expansions.
-
Agreed except I'd like to point out Fallout 1/2 and the Baldur's Gate series have a better story (IMO) than the new Fallout if you're willing to put up with lesser graphics.
Also Assassin's Creed's story is part of an expected trilogy, so don't expect a finish.
I find that some really good stories are found in PS2 RPG titles
.

Neverwinter Nights
Neverwinter Nights 2
Badur's Gate
Planescape Torment
Just basically go through all of the great RPGs -
cool. I think I'll try out Oblivion and Mass Effect since they seem to be popular.
-
I beg to differ here. While a good game, the main quest of Oblivion isn't the best I've seen before. It's decent, not excellent. The sidequests however, tend to be much better constructed and written.
-
I admit the main quest had its grindfest moments (shutting EVERY OBLIVION GATE in EVERY CITY before being able to continue), but it certainly kept me going. Then again, I'm not a huge RPG player, so maybe I'm just easily impressed.
But yeah, Boknora, if you do get Oblivion, get the expansion packs as well. They don't cost much considering how much they add to the game. I'm not even halfway through the Shivering Isles quest. -
Don't for get to fully utilize mods as well. You haven't truly played a TES (The Elder Scrolls) game if you don't use mods. Here is a pretty decent list detailing some of the best the community has to offer.
-
mass effect and bioshock.
-
Final Fantasy 8... Best story IMHO...
-
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (NOT The Sith Lords)
Mass Effect
Oblivion, but more imporantly, the Shivering Isles Expansion (best expansion to any game ever made in my opinion, the storyline is even better then Oblivion itself)
The Witcher
Some games releasing very soon that look promising storywise would be Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect 2 and Bioware's Dragon Age Origins
Also, if you are somewhat into MMOs or Star Wars you should keep your eye on Biowares upcoming MMO Star Wars The Old Republic, it will be very story based and looks like there will be none of the usual level grinding, its also fully voiced, so you might say its more like an online RPG then a traditional MMO. -
i liked the sith lords...
-
Really? I only played to disc 1, thats the only FF i havent finished(other than XII, almost at the end) I never bother to play it again cause I heard the story sucked anyways, but-
-
Hehe, I liked the sith lords too, well, I loved the sith lords. Not because it had a great story though, mostly because it was Star Wars, and an RPG, and the second knights of hte old republic game. I'm just thinking if the OP is looking for really good games storywise, he would probably want games that have an actual ending
So I suppose he would have to wait for team gizka to finish up before trying out TSL ^^ -
Oblivion mods changed my life.
-
I personally liked the Witcher storyline myself, although all of the other more high-profile games have great storylines too.
-
is bioshock a scary game?
-
Some parts are suspenseful and somewhat frightening, but I wouldn't consider it a scary game.
-
-
i consider it scary. the atmosphere is amazing, extremely creepy, the townfolk rambling in the shadows, the audiologs that tell you the story of the city falling apart, the art and the horrific dead people images.
i cant play for more than 30 minutes at a time. -
Wow, you have quite the STALKER collection there!
And good call about Cryostasis. Despite being mostly a tech demo type of game, it had a pretty good story. -
The atmosphere and citizens of Rapture make the game somewhat creepy. I wouldn't call it scary though. F.E.A.R does better with Alma at scaring the player.
One thing I did love about Bioshock was the way the game devs told the story. Listening to the audio recordings of Rapture's citizens... it's not too hard to picture the city in its glory days, and subsequently the period as it was ripped to pieces. -
Another call for Bioshock. Very unique and it's not hard to see why pundits were hyping it so much at the time.
The Witcher also gets kudos too. While it can be pretty predictable at points the dialogue is top and often quite hilariously tongue-in-cheek.
On the otherhand, there are many gamers favourites here that give great gameplay experiences but aren't really that skillful with handling the storyline.
I could go on, mainly with digs at FPS, especially alot of the one's mentioned on the first page. They're just highly predictable/ you've seen it before in some form or another before.
It's pretty decent and it is still a lot more original than most of the pap out these days. It just lacks a tight pace. Compared to the rest of the series? It doesn't stand against it's forebearer, which still twelve years later holds title for best narrative/storyline in a game IMO. Sorry to sound arrogant here, but many of the suggestions here tend to pale in comparison. If your looking for something less dated/more current though, go with my previous suggestions. -
Hmm.... I guess I'll stay away from Bioshock lol. Not to sound like an idiot, but I get really freaked out even for the least scary things. Also, I usually play in the middle of the night with all the lights turned off so that might add to the scary moments of Bioshock.
-
Well that definitely limits your options. Bioshock is not that scary in comparison to say Doom 3/FEAR/ Deadspace. Unless you find being chased around by metalic hulks scary, some do. And after a while the other enemies just come off as laughable lunatics, you get use to their scare tactics in a way.
The Witcher also has it's fair share of fights in the dark too. Perhaps a strategy would be better? -
Maybe I'll try Bioshock. It doesn't sound scary at all when you put it that way.
-
You wana a good story !? ok then - Sliders.....ow wait...it's a sitcom, lol
O yea Bioshock is great, but the 500 $ limit just somewhat pissed me very much in that game... -
Bioshock can be scary for the first hour or two. After that its hard to feel scared with the powers you get haha.
BEHOLD THE ALMIGHTY WRENCH (most OP'd weapon in the game IMO
)
-
Ditto that !
-
This is probably the scariest aspect of the game. To hear a Spider Splicer mumbling to himself in the darkness, and then hear his scuttling as he advances on you, and not being able to spot him until he gets right in your face. Creepy I tell ya. And don't forget the Houdinis with their distinct teleporting sound effects.
