I realise this is more a desktop question but I haven't gotten any replies on desktop review so I figured I'd try here, if you could help out it'd be much appreciated xD.

When I'm playing RIFT if I minimise the game and play music on youtube the fps decreases from around 40 to 10-15.

This weekend I upgraded my PC with a new motherboard Z68A-G80, i7 2600K, and some new ram. It wasn't doing this before the upgrade could it be something to do with the CPU? I notice the clock speed seems to change as I do different things could that be causing it?

The problem is that having a browser running flash it halves the performance, since the system will allocate more resources to it than the game.

You can try a few things thought.
First when a youtube clip plays, right click on it, go into Flash settings/proprieties, see if GPU Hardware Accelleration is enabled. If it is, disable it and try again.
If not, enable it and see if the gpu downclocks.

Also, if you're on nvidia, go into Nvidia Control Panel/Manage 3d Settings and set these options:

    - Display to Single Display Mode (should be multi)
    - Power Management to Prefer Maximum Performance (should be adaptive)

Anyway mate dont be offended by playing a youtube clip while playing is stupid. Because flash devours system resources and stresses the gpu too much when its not needed, at all.
If you want to listen to youtube clips, download them using an addon (there are plenty for firefox or chrome) and play them using Windows Media Player.

Just an advice. Open Browser+Gaming: phail.

    I see, ok then.

I just thought it was a bit odd that it only started happening since I upgraded my PC.

Thanks anyway, I'll stick with itunes in future, haha xD.
