Can anyone suggest me a good Strategy game to play? I have played only one (deadlock) but no newer games new ones as I am a RPG/FPS fan. But as far as strategy games, i have no idea what to pick to. Deadlock (circa 1996) is the only game i played which i enjoyed. Any and all input welcome and the tougher the game the better.

Civilization 4, Company of Heroes, Sins of a Solar Empire, or any of the Total War series (Medieval II: Total War is the most recent) are all good, mainstream games to get yourself started.

If you want something more....complex, look into Harpoon or Operational Art of War 3 (Matrixgames.com sells lots of these kinds of games)

If you want REALLY complex, get War in the Pacific, or this:

If you want one thats really technical and competitive online, get Company of Heroes. If you want something less technical and more traditional, get C&C3. I'd recommend Coh though.

World In Conflict is terrible in comparison to Company of Heroes.

You can always play a quick skirmish map like the one in the SupCom demo. I managed to finish a game like that in around 20 minutes.

All of the ones suggested above are great, but what the one I'm looking forward to is Starcraft II. That game SHOULD be amazing.

I hate base building though. I still play CoH online regularly, but no base building is where it's at. Less about build orders and more about unit orders.

Dude, please play Starcraft. You can get the original and 2 expansion packs for $20 at pretty much any store that sells PC games.

Starcraft II supposedly this December...can't wait :D

Command & Conquer, highly recommend the Red Alert side of C&C which has the best story, gameplay, & actors but the Tiberium games are entertaining enough.

Unfortunately WiC is the Crysis of strategy games. Framerates can crawl due to nuclear strikes and massive action on screen. It is still a fun game tho'.

Here's my suggestions which most have already been mentioned:

    Sins of the Solar Empire
    Galactic Civilizations II
    Command & Conquer 3
    Age of Empires 3
    Civilization 4
    Company of Heroes

^^plus the hearts of iron series. i play 2 quite regularly but 1 is still awesome. (its much more complex then 2) whoever said that CoH is complex needs to play some real games. none of these incredibly dumbed down strategy games for the modern kid.

i also play patrician 3 which is a trading game...........pretty complex but you can probably pick it up for $5 seeing as i can get it for $10 in australia.

Well, on my X3100, World in Conflict runs playably at 800x600. Company of Heroes stutters so much even at 640x480 low, due to a bug, that it's really unplayable.

CoH is tactically more complicated than most RTS games, what with cover, lots of special use skills, different strengths based upon unit facings, etc. It is not very strategically complex though. Granted older turn based games are even more tactically involved, but CoH is pretty impressive for what it is.

I like trading games and grand strategy too, but it is just a different kind of game. I'm not a big fan of StarCraft (gasp!) though. As was recently pointed out in an article I read, most people that really like StarCraft play it more as an action game than a strategy game. I like strategy over action, and found StarCraft underwhelming.

i always thought of sc as the most complex game :) I been playing sc for the past 7-8 years and the strategy still keeps changing.

most rts games these days i find are most mundane verging on boring. meaning units have direct counter units and massed single units generally work. CoH is passable but massed tanks still own all.

CoH is on a pretty small scale where you don't need to worry about whole battle fronts.........and where large scale tactics don't exist.

i made a post in another thread. there is a site called volcano mods. it has quite a few free large scale strategy games slightly more complex than even the hearts of iron series. they take quite a few hours to get used to so many variables and battle situations.

i'm no fan of starcraft either. nor many other popular games...........i prefer a bit of strategy. although with starcraft there is alot of adapting. but the main thing that decides the outcome of a game is the build up and who can rush quicker. this changes when the players are of equal skill where games last for several hours. i play aoe2 with a couple of mates and we are all of very similar skill level. which makes the games rather epic.

COMPANY OF HEROES! Third best game that I've played in my opinion. My line up:

    1. Call of Duty 4
    2. Assassin's Creed
    3. Company of Heroes
    4. GTA: San Andreas

Comand and Conquer Series is great, especially the Red Alert sub-series. Pick up Comand and Conquer X, you can get it for about $30 and it has 10 games/expansion packs on it, every C&C title from the first 10 years. A great deal. Within the pack you literally get 100's of missions. Plus they are all crammed on one DVD, so installation is a breeze.

Also, I have another question; does such a strategy game exist where you can do co-op online against the computer or other people?

Almost every strategy game allows something like this. You can play skirimsh multiplayer games with AI and human opponents mixed together in any combination up to the maximum players the game supports. If you mean play the campaign with 2 people... I think that is pretty rare.

I haven't found any friend that like it, they prefer war3... I love the game but I found that once you get the ia, and anti missile shield the game just drags on until ressources are depleted on thee map...
