I just got a new laptop...havent had a machine capable of playing decent games in agesi was a big fan of the C&C series on consoles...but i hear World Of Conflict is meant to be similar if not better, anyone played em both?
-
World in Conflict's multiplayer kicks much rear end.
-
I played them both and unfortunately that is a hard call to make. World in Conflict is a great fun RTS game without the resource gathering. C&C 3 is everything you'd want from a C&C game: fast and furious. Both have great single player, skirmish, and multiplayer modes. C&C 3 will run better on a laptop than WiC though, but WiC will run fine if you reduce detail.
-
ya a good multiplayer is a must...one player can get outlived relatively fast. there doesnt seem much between the two games, both have fairly far-fetched story-lines, but have great gameplay/graphics. itd be an emotional attachment for C&C from yesterday that would pull me back. is WIC multiplayer better? -
-
Honestly they both lack kick in multiplayer.
WiC is actually pretty fun but can get repetitive quickly and suffers from a lack of diverse game modes.
C&C3 is exactly what you expect from a CnC game except it has a some fundamental flaws:
A) Missles don't miss anymore, they changed this because they realized (after release) that bike harrasment couldn't be stopped by rocket soldiers. So pretty much post patch 1.04 you can forget microing.
B) Economy/Cranes: you gather resources way too quickly and with the ability to build cranes and multiple buildings/unit que games turn into spam-fests too quickly. I played competitively so ill give you an example...If I did ONE (yes ONE) little thing wrong in my build order the economy loss would be enough to lose you the game. There is little to no room for comebacks etc its just who can build up the bigger army. Basically the gap between high skilled / medium skilled players is very low in comparison to games like CoH/WC3/SC.
3) Three exact same factions: Remember when you were playing a game like WC3 and when you switched over from Night Elf to Undead you had no freaking clue what you were doing? Well here it is the exact opposite...instead of a scorpion tank that shoots shells you have an alien 'seeker' tank that shoots glowing shells. instead of a helicopter that shoots lasers the aliens have a flying machine that also shoots lasers. not to mention aliens use the same crane technology.
Anyways ill stop there, you can see I was clearly disappointed with C&C3 and I don't recommend it. I would go with WiC. -
link1313 - What is your opinion on C&C Generals? I *love* that game still. I thought it was fairly well balanced and no single way to easily rush someone. But then again, my RTS skills are only mediocre.
I like RTS games that give me a challenge tactically, and not just a clickfest race. And games that will give you an opportunity to come from behind. I always thought RTS games should give the team behind some sort of "secret weapon" if they get behind by a certain point, that if used tactically would turn the tide. Or being able to "warp" a few of your key buildings to a new point on the map to buy you enough time to build up again. -
I know what you mean...its not fun if OK players can luck it in multiplayer. ya ill go for WiC so. What games are CoH and SC youre referring to? I might get something else beside WiC too! -
CoH is Company of Heroes. Great game.
WC3 is Warcraft 3.
SC is Starcraft. 10 year old game, but it is still fun if you look past the antiquated sprite graphics. Plus it will play on even the lowliest and oldest of laptops or handheld PC's.
Don't let link1313 fool you though. He sounds like a die-hard player. I play with a few buddies when I can for multiplayer and it can be a lot of fun. I don't like playing with random people online because skills never match up well, or you get a complete tool as an opponent or teammate that ruins the whole game. -
-
I have had LOADS of fun with WiC though, mainly because it's a little different than traditional RTS's and it looks so damn good. But it's hard not to recommend C&C 3.
I'm a gaming whore though. Although I don't have much time to game at the moment (new baby), I still tend to buy a lot of games even though I don't play all the way through them.
Speaking of RTS's, the line between them and action/FPS's are blurring. I can see soon that you should be able to take direct control of a single soldier in FPS view to help the battle along. That would be uber kool. -

i would go with world of conflict... im gonna try to make "santa" bring it to me this x-mas
-
wingnut: About Generals I never played the expansion (Zero Hour i believe) so I can't really comment because I heard that it improved the overall game by a ton. I played the original a few times on my friend's computer and I enjoyed it a lot. I guess thats why Blizzard got the guy who produced Generals to lead the Starcraft 2 team....
edit: im going to suggest getting Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts. -
Rob, may I suggest that you also check out Company of Heroes' new stand alone expansion, Opposing Fronts
?
A very good strategy game, with much needed freshness in its gameplay.
While C&C3 and WiC are both pretty decent games, I find both of them very bland when compared to CoH. But that's just me.

Really great when you had a few competent team mates that would take different factions and generals and use all the different strengths to our advantage. There are some real tactics involved. Laser general is the best for putting up quick and cheap defenses that would support the others, and air force general would lead the attack with the chinese army general punching up the middle, followed by the laser general with a slew of tanks.
Great fun. -
Can you play an expansion pack without having the original game installed? Thats

I love WiC, although I haven't played much of the retail version, I did use all I could in both the open and closed beta. I agree it does get repetitive though but only if you play alot
Strategy..C&C3 or World Of Conflict
