Did you used to play it in Windowed mode? To do so, did you put "-w" or "-window" in the target field under the properties of the game's shortcut? Or did you modify an ini file in the system folder to change it out of fullscreen mode? If you open the files in your systems folder in wordpad, one of them might say "StartFullscreen=" By default it has a 1 next to it, which would mean that fullscreen is activated. If it says "Fullscreen=0", that means you previously changed it so that it would open in windowed mode.

If there was no option for windowed mode in the games menus, you most likely would have had to use one of these methods to get it to play that way.

I've never played Oblivion, so I can't be sure.

I actually just learned about all of this this week in my attempts to play The Longest Journey and Shadow of Destiny in wondowed mode. It's impossible with Shadow of Destiny, but possible with TLJ.

You change the windowed mode through the options setting on the splash screen, did you check there?
