I am unable to get any Drivers to install including any modded or official ones. <--snip-->

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558&REV_A1

    Update:

Here is a link to my modded inf for the GTX 680M / P170HM / Nvidia Drivers 304.79 (Beta). It also works with some other Drivers such as 304.48 (and possibly others)

I also modded Nvidia Beta 302.77 after hearing users report it was more stable than 304.79. A reported crash with Bioshock 2 did not occur after a user installed this version. Here is a link to the modded inf for 302.77.

Apparently 304.79 performs a little better while 302.77 sacrifices a little performance for better stability, this may vary though.

I am not sure if every GTX 680m that is installed and unrecognized by the Bios in the P170HM will have the same Hardware ID with the four zero's but if your ID is 0000.1558 then this inf will work otherwise you will just have to modify new ones.

I have noticed one other user has exactly the same ID so maybe it is only the first four digits that change once the Bios recognizes and assigns one. They purchased from RJTech as well so maybe it is just their batch that has those same ID's when unrecognized.

Here is a link to the post where I detailed how I modded the inf.

Note: It used to be nvcv.inf that needed to be modified but with the recent Nvidia Drivers, it is now nvcvn.inf. The same method works fine. I noticed this with the 314.07 WHQL onwards.

When Prema has released his custom Vbios for the 680M / P170HM, we won't need any inf modifications though.

    Did you try the 302.71?

302.71 was the stock that came with mine but I can't seem to find it anywhere even on Sager's site so I wouldn't mind uploading them if you haven't tried them.

I have tried the 302.71 from the Sager site, they wouldn't install. RJTech's 302.72 included Drivers wouldn't work install either.

Nvidia Drivers 304.79 installed without any errors or prompts for digital signing but I am sure those are the same ones that failed previously. I have no idea how this is suddenly working.

haha thats good to hear, as long as it works right. By the way by any chance when you bring up the nvidia control pannel do you see an option to set up stereoscopic 3d?

I don't see any Sterioscopic 3D settings anywhere. Yea it seems to be working fine, for example Arkham City, Very High, 60 fps and maximum temperature so far is only 68C

Maybe playing for hours will give a better gauge though. My GTX 485M would hit 85C by then though, I know 28nm :D

Edit: I just realised how I got it working. When I messed around with the nvcv.inf, I experimented with replacing occurances of NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.5105.1558 with NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.000.1558

I chose to change that one because it was closest to my NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558 ID and of course a 680M. I didn't think that would work and it failed on the first try, but now I remember going back and replacing more strings.

Everything seems to work ok but who knows lol.

This is promising that users are able to use the 680m in the HM models. I am really going to try to keep my NP9150 for two years, and if the next generation of GPU's offer a significant performance bump, it may make it likely to keep it longer. I like my laptop a lot. Just have to make sure I don't destroy it before then lol.

Did rjtech's GTX 680m come with thermal pads on the heatsink they sent?

Yes, it came with thermal pads already fixed on the heatsink. I also noticed a small thermal pad was loose in the plastic bag. The GPU could have potentially died if I didn't notice that so don't forget to examine them. I used MX4 thermal paste and the line method, that's never failed me, also cleaned out dust while I was at it. Just noticed it seems quieter too.

Yes, I paid £66 VAT, RJTech always decclare full value, I used USPS to ship.

I am wondering why my HW ID is different now, another owner has the ID listed in the default .inf and it is different to mine. Having said that, another custom .inf shows 4 different HW IDS.

So far temps haven't gone above 68C but I will be testing GTA IV for quite a while in a minute.

One thing that is strange, although I know my Bios doesn't recognise this GPU, the latest GPU-Z shows Tech, Die size, Release Date and Mem size unknown.

Edit: I just noticed that it shows like that here too in the first thread I saw about someone successfully installing the 680M into the P170HM.

The only thing differnt on mine that shouldn't be different is the SUB system ID. I don't know why it would be different although I had a similar issue with my GTX 485M having a less used HW ID which caused problems with some Drivers until Nvidia added the ID's.

I also notice that temps vary a lot from one game to the other. I was getting a max of 57C while playing Black Ops, 60C while playing SR2, 68 - 72C playing GTA IV and older games like CNC3 are even lower. Performance was still great even at 55C!

For example, RFA all high settings, 68 fps and hovering around 66C.

Congratulation of your purchase, I hope more testing will be released soon.
The variation of temp with different games is normal, games like crysis2 metro 2033 will use 99% of the gpu compare to old games or games that require less power to run. So gpu usage has an impact in temperature. I have finish return to castle wolfenstein last month, you could even play this 2001's game with the low gpu clock frequencies, so my gtx580m has never go up to 55C.

In recent games, it depends also of game design, the max temp of your card will be different if a game has large maps with a 99% gpu usage and very short load time between maps, versus a game with little maps and huge load time (where there is a drop in gpu usage).

With the GTX680m could you continue to adjust the screen brightness with The FN + F8 or FN + F9 keys or with windows key + x ?

Yes, screen brightness still works perfectly from using the FN+ F8 and F9 keys.

    My 3DMark11 scores are:

Bare in mind that I have no idea whether my modification of this Nvidia Driver has any negative effects since Ive never messed with that before. I am going to test a different version modded by someone who knows what they are doing later to see if there is any difference.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I ran 3DMark11 again withthe same Driver but this time using someones modded inf who actually knows what they were doing:

    Graphics Score
    6061
    Physics Score
    5458
    Combined Score

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following is my 3DMark11 run using the same Drivers after I retraced the steps I took when I modified the .inf but this time I checked everything to make sure all were error free since I remmbered everything I had done:

I know HTWingNut who has a P150EM got higher though, however, I'm hitting 80 fps in games like Spec Ops: The Line, 90fps + in other titles and maxing out BF3 so not too concerned. I also noticed a persons 7970M got the same as my result at stock.

It probably wont work on the em series due to the igpu. But my thinking was that because amd cards can do eyefinity, but they need display port to do it, you could never do more than 2 displays on the hm series. But if you have a 680m in an hm the kepler cards support up to 4 monitors, but they arent limited to display port, so in theory it should be able to output to two external and one internal all at the same time, because on my 485m there is an option to do this, but when i try it says this gpu can only support two outputs. then you could get two 17" external 1080p monitors and run surround vison or whatever nvidia calls it :).

I used to release modded infs back in time, if you want i can try to mod it for you.
I need the inf file of the driver you want, usually its nvam.inf, or nv_disp.inf.
If you have both, send it to me, or upload them somewhere.

    Thanks a lot Kingpin.

My GPU hardware ID is NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558

nv_disp.inf does not seem to exist for those so I have uploaded nvam.inf and some others ive seen modified in such situations. Let me know if you need any more they are from Nvidia 304.79

Only after modding nvcv.inf did anything work for me.

    Edit:

I just went back and retraced all of the steps I took when I first modded nvcv.inf, I started fresh and did all of it again, then I installed and tested. The following are the steps I took just in case anyone else needs to do it. I can confirm that my brightness shortcut functions are working again and my 3DMark 11 score is higher too. Previously I couldn't figure out 100% what I did until now.

Each time you need to edit the file, because usually nvidia moves the inf files around, or add new things.

Anyway heres the nvcv.inf file modded.

please keep in mind that ive modded this as i did with my 460m/485m and desktop 570, so i dont know if something changed, its been a while since im on the red team now.
Whats strange is that your subsys id has 4 zeroes.
Anyway to check if the inf file works, just overwrite and launch the setup. If it goes past the first license agreement, theres a good chance that it will complete the installation.

Grab the according notebook verde driver package from here http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windo...n8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-beta.exe
    Unistall your current driver.
Boot to safe mode and run Driver Sweeper (or check my guide in my signature)
    Reboot.
Unpack the driver using Winrar or 7zip. Overwrite the file into Display.Driver directory.
Try to install the driver, if it passes the first license agreement, hit Customize Installation, Deselect 3d Components, select Perform Clean installation.
If it finishes, once rebooted, apply the tweaks described in my guide.
GPU-Z should recognize the card correctly...

Thats the best i can do right now. I wish you the best luck mate!

Thanks Kingpinzero, I really appreciate your efforts and will install and test this one later. I was also surprised about the strange 4 zero's in my subsys id to the point that I removed my GPU to double check it was not some QS or something lol.

All looked fine and the DIE showed it was legit.

That happened with asus g53/73 460m as well.
Basically theres an exclusive time window, that forces them to turn customers to their own laptop brand for support and drivers.
Those brands need to craft a proper driver for their products.
When this "time" ends, they begin adding IDs to their notebook verde program.
Usually it coincides with the will to not support anymore a laptop or product by manufacturer.
Releasing a driver for your own laptop is time consuming and you need a pool of experts to craft one. Most of the times brands like asus don't have this team of people since its a waste of time (and money) and after an initial driver release, they put everything to rest.
With other brands such clevo, they hardly update their drivers page. Most of the time the months passes and the ID gets added to the official driver.

The install failed about half way through so I took a quick look in the .inf and noticed this:

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11A0.0000.1558% = Section063, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11A0&SUBSYS_00001558 &REV_A1
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1211.0270.1558% = Section091, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1211&SUBSYS_02701558
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1211.0271.1558% = Section025,

After removing the &REV_A1's, the install worked perfectly, I thought maybe that got in by accident from a copy and paste?

Thanks, hopefully you won't mind helping out some other time in the future if Nvidia still haven't added that hardware ID. I tested out this .inf with some previous Drivers, I think it was 304.48 and that worked fine too. Screen brightness settings also work.

Would you mind providing a quick explanation on how did you customize the inf file that is different from the rest?

    Thanks :)

Well basically you need to take a look at how the "section" part of the inf file is made.
It tells where and which files/services/components to install based on what card you have.
Usually higher end cards have an higher section number.
That said, you need to add pci_ven id and Subsys Id to both section (sometimes those are even three, based on which OSes are supported) paying attention to use the correct section number, and place.
Once you did this, you need to add the gpu string along with the name to the bottom of the file.
If there are similar cards in the inf, you can add all these strings directly below that, so you can understand better which section it uses and place it correctly.
Thats a rough explaination but it works like that.

I noticed that GPU-z shows Open CL as disabled after this install. This makes no difference to me but no idea why it would be disabled, it was not previously. Strange?

All other features are enabled fine.

Don't worry, OpenCL should be working anyway.
Besides have u noticed some kind of performance increase since using my modded inf?

I haven't noticed any differences so far.

    Edit:

Apparently the '0000' in the Hardware ID is caused due to the Bios not recognizing the GPU. According to RJTech, a similar occurrence is observed with the P170EM if the Bios is not updated.

Currently only modified Drivers will solve the problem until Nvidia add the hardware ID (doubt it since it is not an official one), or Sager release a Bios update (doubt that too).

Curious where are you guys buying the upgrade kits for the 680m? I noticed Malibal has one for 800 USD which is where I got my P170HM, but it seems a bit pricey at the moment. Is there someplace cheap or are you really paying that much?

Mine was from RJTech for the same price but in my currency it becomes £515 (GBP). If it was 800 in my currency then I wouldn't even bother.

There was talk on this forum of someone buying an MSI version of the 680M for $445 but I think it was a QS.

@laptopnut : Do you have paid £515 with delivery and tax ? The buyer of the msi live in asiatic country where the price is less expensive, and he has bought an QS sample.
