I like Bioshock and only paid $20 for it at Best Buy. Aside from that I'm into RTS games so I won't be of much help...

A nice Diablo 2 clone is Sacred: Underworld (even has some Diablo references added in for fun!). You can buy a hard copy on eBay or just use steam. Tonnes of replay value with many difficulty levels, weapons, etc etc.

FPS: Shadowrun... Its a pretty underrated and often unheard of game. Should be an easy pickup @ local Gamestop for $20. Can buy Xbox360 version for $12-15.

definitely agree with this. you should try this game. its the first game in a long time i played start to finish without being bored enough to start a different game in the middle (minus counter strike, but that doesnt count). plus its only 20 bucks.

Action-based hack'n'slash RPG to traditional cRPG based on 2nd edition DnD rules, I don't quite see the connection other than both games being broadly under the RPG umbrella.

Not at all like gears of war. I didn't really warm to either personally as they seemed console designed. Mass effect is very well engineered however and runs incredibly well, a breath of fresh air when compared with recent demanding games that look good too but kill your system.

the third person camera is similar to gears of war but I think the interaction with characters is somewhat different.

For RPGs I would recommend Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines very highly.

It has a very unique atmosphere that I can confidently say no game has ever recreated. Unfortunately, it has quite a big of bugs, but there is an unofficial patch u can download from the community that fixes everything. Last time I checked, you can get it on Steam

If you liked to PvP in Diablo II, or play dota in WarCraft, you should give Demigod a try. It's just fun carnage, no real story, just jump in and play, and apparently has a pretty good multiplayer outlet.
