I've grown tired of the plethora of fast-paced, point and click shooters. Can anyone recommend an online shooter that focuses on realism (no enemy radar, easily killed, etc.). COD4 hardcore modes were great, but is anything even more realistic than that?
Also, how is America's Army 3? Does it fit my criteria?

Red orchestra and it's mods. Very old and small user base nowadays but light on graphics and more focused on team work. It is a find cover or die type game.

Try joining the army. Did you see recent TV commercials for the Army with predators. Looks pretty cool to me.
(Assuming you live in USA) -
america's army 3 seems to have a good score on gaming magazines!
-
project reality. its a bf2 mod and is very realistic.

Arma II
Operation Flashpoint 2 -
Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield
You could die in one shot on the easiest setting. It is online, but not very popular anymore. -
It's still got some glitches, but hey, it's free... -
-
insurgency is worth trying, its free on steam if you already have counter strike source and its really hard to play on some maps as you die so easily.

I hope the lethality depends on where you're hit. Otherwise it's BOOM, LEG-SHOT!!!

In the game I suggested Red Orchestra depending on how you are hit with what weapon any hit that is deemed debilatating is a kill so boom, leg-shot isn't far off.
It was either that or you would just lie there till you were finished off. -
There is no health bar. There's just a circle. Living, wounded, or dead. -
Brothers in arms hells highway...No such this as HP in this game.
-
didn't get what you said but Call of Duty World at War gets my vote.. got to be super realistic.. with all the gore and weapons..
-
if Call of Duty is "realistic" then then L4D must be a "simulation."
-
agreed, other than graphics COD is not realistic at all
find one person that can get shot about 15 times, and be perfectly fine after 5 seconds of deep breathing in cover -

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
My vote goes for OF2: DR. And I've heard good things about ArmA II.

ARMA II and NOTHING else. You want realistic you won't get better than this military combat simulator. Its the BE ALL and END ALL of realistic shooters on the PC. Nothing even comes close to this game for what you are looking for.
Too bad you just missed a half price sale on steam. -

BF2 Reality Mod - Hard as **** but it's a very cool not to mention incredibly comprehensive. Certainly worth checking out if you have BF2 and want to try something different. Just to let you know, it's a huge download, actually it's two seperate files, each over 1 GB, but worth the wait. I would say it's the best mod for BF2 along with the AIX mod, but of course AIX doesn't get mention here for being incredibly unrealistic
ArmA (Armed Assault) 1 & 2 - Arguably the most realistic FPSs ever made. They are in fact based on the military simulation programs that Bohemia Interactive makes for military training. The two games are pretty much more like simulations than games.
Operation Flashpoint 1 & 2 - Never played them but Bohemia Interactive did the original, while Codemasters did the second. Codemasters owns the title and rights to series hence why Bohemia didn't do the second since they have no association with Codemasters anymore. ArmA AFAIK is pretty much Operation Flashpoint reborn with better technology.
Rainbow Six games - The older ones are incredibly realistic for their time. R6:Vegas series kind of downplays the realism a bit with the 3rd person cover but the game is still much more realistic than most FPSs. It just happens to be alot of fun too, both off and online.
Ghost Recon games - I've only played the Advanced Warfighter series of Ghost Recon games. The PC versions, unlike their console brethren are 1st person as opposed to 3rd, and tend to be more realistic in execution. The older Ghost Recon games were pretty realistic too IIRC, however graphically I don't think they've aged pretty well LOL, so trying to play them might be quite an issue with that fact.
Super realistic shooters
