I just got a Surface Pro 4 and intend to use it mainly for work. That being said, I loaded it up with a few 2D indie games (Banner Saga, Botanicula) and these are stuttering once every 5 seconds or so - freezing for almost a full second before resuming. It's severely distracting.
At first I thought it was because I'd installed them on a MicroSD card but even reinstalling one of the games to the main SSD didn't solve it. I'm playing unplugged in tablet mode and was wondering if there's any settings I need to hit to ensure it's not throttling or using less energy?
Or is this a problem with my device/WIndows 10? Thanks for the help! Going away for 2 weeks tomorrow and would very much like to have this sorted before then.

What are your power settings on? If its on power saver it could be doing that, try switching to high performance.

Did you try the latest drivers and updates from MS? Which SP4? Have you tried external video to see if it still happens? The SP4 does an OK job, when I had mine even SNES Emulators would cause it to heat up pretty good though.

Yeah, there's no high performance mode on surface pro laptops. I edited the registry to enable it as I saw that people had done so already online but still no benefit.
Am going to reinstall the Intel 520 driver for the GPU and see if that helps. Super confused as to why the stutter happens - it's not on power saver and there's no reason for Botanicula or Banner Saga, entirely 2D games that run on mobile, to cause performance issues.
