Hello, I just did a clean install of Win7 pro x64 on a brand new HD and so far the process has been smooth...

I installed the 195.50 NVIDIA drivers, and then ran 3Dmark06 to see if the system was running as well/better than it was on 32bit Vista.
However I am consistently getting scores in the 2700 range now when before I had them in the 4100 range.

Any idea why this is happening? I am doing this install of a brand new HD so maybe I am missing other drivers that are slowing down performance in general.
Any help would be great, see system info below.

    ASUS G1s -a1
    T7500 2.2Ghz
    8600m GT
    3gb ram

Were you using the 195.50 drivers before you installed win7? ._. Try using the current official WHQL drivers from nvidia website

186.81 has been the best by far of the official drivers.

did it default back to battery saver or balanced instead of high performance.

I just tried with 186.91 drivers and am still getting similar results. It had defaulted to balanced mode, so I switched to high performance and didn't see a difference. It seems like something else must be effecting it.

On a side note, is there a pwer4gear for win7 x64 that will give me back all the power plans that came with the computer originally?

And how is the performance actually playing a game?

Well I havn't actually tried yet, I was hoping to resolve the benchmarking first before installing most of my software. I can try something out if you think it would help figure out what is going on.

Balanced mode is fine. Check CPU usage while idle in Task Manager.

Obviously the question is which score is actually lower... SM2, SM3, or CPU...

Those drivers are horrible. I had major issues with them and poor performance. I switched to the DOX 185.85 and all my problems went away.

    SM2 :1078
    SM3: 950
    CPU: 1907
    Still trying 186.91.

I don't know what these individual scores were on Vista so I don't have anything to compare them to ATM.

Jntar I havn't heard great things either, but I'm doubting these drivers would really cut my 3dmarks by over a third. When I get more time I can try some others.

Balanced mode has a chance to score higher than high performance mode. Just for the record. I always use balanced. I'm also pretty sure that 195.50 runs cooler than 186.91. I have switched between those drivers before and I haven't noticed a performance drop like you are describing. Are you sure your using the same settings in the benchmark program?

The performance drop I am having occurred after a switch from 32bit Vista to 64bit 7. The drivers I have been discussing in this thread have performed essentially the same (poorly). As far as I know 3dmark06 does not let you change any settings in the trial, so I don't think its that.

I would. The drivers would cause my GPU to get stuck in the low 3d settings of 200/300 when my clocks should be 375/450.

    Give these a try... http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/24004-dox-185-85/

Thanks jntar, those drivers must have been the problem. I just tried the one you recommended and got a 43xx which is where it should be, so I feel a lot better now... I'm still a little confused why the ones I tried were so miserable.

With some drivers, your GPU gets stuck in 2D mode because of nVidia's powermizer, which is a mechanism that throttles the GPU's clock speed based on the application being used. Often times, powermizer fails to detect that an intensive 3D application is running. i.e. - a game or benchmark. And the GPU gets stuck in low power mode.

hmmmmmm well maybe I should use a different driver....because I'm using the ones he had a problem with.....I'm going to run some benchmarks and compare them.
    here is my nvidia information:

Should I still switch to DOX 185.85? Or does my gpu look good? I want my computer performing at it's maximum.

(I'm talking about my asus g50vt a1, specs in my sig)

The problem I found with Dox 185.85 was a few games were not working properly or were missing menus. Since these are quite old drivers and are no longer being updated, you might find issues.
