This is the configuration I am planing to get for a Vostro 1500.

I do not planing on doing any photoshoping or video editing mostly Music, MS word, Internet, some gaming.... normal college stuff.

Iv'e always heard that the GPU is going to be the lmiting factor in gaming.
Would that statement be correct in this situation?
Please if you own this configuration please share your results.

Also I will be coming from a [email protected] 768mb ram and a 7300gt card.
Will this setup be an improvment overall, if so how much.

Thanks guys this forum is great! :)

It will be a huge improvement, especially in gaming. The 8600GT is a far superior card. While the cpu is not really any faster, there are 2 of them making general tasks much smoother.

the cpu is not very good,,i hope you can upgrade to at least 1.83ghz,,if you really want to play game..
all in all there is still huge improvement,,as the cpu 1.4ghz just has the same performance as p4 3g i think,, the display card at least 1.6 time faster than the old one.

because i just thought about that, though 8600gt will take huge advantage in 3dmark06,, in the 3dmark03 8600gt maybe has only more or less 11000 while 7300gt can also get 10000..

Where did you get that number? It's completely wrong.

The 8400GS, which is more powerful than the 7300 scores 5000 in 3DMark03. So at the most, then 7300 will score about 4000-4500 in 3DMark03, not 10000!!!

My 7300gt really is as bad as people think.
I have it overclocked to almost the level as a 7600gs.
They both use the same cores.

And thanks for all the responses.
