Hey guys, I have a morrowind/modding question for you guys. Actually it's related to Skyrim too. I played Skyrim for about 130 hours or so and I got to level 69 and I have to admit that the quests in the game seemed very boring to me compared to many of the quests in Oblivion and Morrowind.
Now, I know their different games and all but I just felt like Bethesda put an extreme amount of effort into the graphics (which look absolutely incredible especially after installing some HD Texture packs) but they didn't really have grasping stories and quests like in their previous games. Do you guys agree or disagree with me?
A big one for me was the thieves guild in Skyrim. LAME! I personally think the quests were very boring compared to the thieves guild quest lines from TES 3 & 4. I dunno, I felt so much more immersed in the story in the other games.
Also I used to love the crazy items in Morrowind like the hoptoad rings. Remember when you could cast like 4 of them one after the other then jump from Seyda Neen to Balmora? By the end of the game you didn't even need Stilt striders. And remember how awesome it was when you found a full suit of glass armor? I personally remember infiltrating this vampire stronghold that I randomly found while exploring and wound up slaughtering their entire clan and then confronting the boss at the very end who was wearing the glass armor. I freaked out when I saw how awesome it was. And! How you could move candles anywhere you want in the game? I remember stealing candles from everywhere in order to decorate my house.
So after playing Skyrim for that amount of time I had the urge to play Morrowind again because I really missed all the things I mentioned above. I bought Morrowind on sale for like 5 bucks off steam (excellent deal imo) and I installed it but there is a couple things preventing me from playing through it again.
1) The gameplay is choppy as hell ( I forgot how horrible leveling from 1-10 was lol)
2) I really don't look forward to mindlessly leveling my minor skills and mayor skills to get three +5 modifiers to one of my stats.
Honestly those are the 2 major things kind of bugging me now. I already fixed the outdated graphics by installing the Morrowind Sound and Graphics Overhaul which makes it look very good compared to before. But the gameplay is killing me at the beginning of the game.
My question is do you know of any mods to fix the choppy gameplay? Or perhaps is there a place where I could find some save files at around level 10 with a character similar to my own? I don't really want to do that but I can't get past missing like 90% of my attacks and having to level tedious skills to get stats modifiers.
What I really wish existed was a game with Skyrim's graphics and gameplay with the world, story and items of Morrowind. I dunno, what do you guys think about that? Please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments. Thanks!

Hmm, lol always a funny problem to have. You can always get a single core laptop with winXP for about 100$ bucks just to play morrowind.
I'd try it in various compatibility modes, maybe try installing directX 9 or something.
I agree though, best game of the elder scrolls series hands down. -
I only played Oblivion and Skyrim from the series, but I totally agree that Skyrim's mechanics and quest lines are way too simplified compared to Oblivion. For example becoming the listener after about the 2nd mission in the Dark Brotherhood or getting admitted to the inner circle of the Companions after 3 missions were quite disappointing for me. I remember sneaking in a castle in one of the cities in Oblivion and having to wait for the guard shift to be able to slip through a door, then going through a secret passage to get to my target. One mission could take hours to complete, but there were no 2 similar ones and they were extremely rewarding. (Also the Dark Brotherhood quest line itself had so much content it could have pretty much been a standalone title with a gripping story.)
I've also just finished Dawnguard which I feel is a bit incomplete. There were no real choices in the story, I couldn't choose to proceed with the vampires' evil plan despite supporting it in every conversation and when the last battle was done there was basically no reward (like a title or a house, a companion, etc..); many of the vampire NPCs didn't even note the situation which was quite sad.
On the other hand, despite all these changes that I personally don't like I still had an awesome time playing the game and it's still an outstanding RPG. If Bethesda released Oblivion with Skyrim's engine it would be the perfect RPG though.

So if I get you correctly, you want to play the game but don't really want to play the game?
No offense, but really, you can't have the good without the bad and vice versa.
Morrowind had excellent content, except you had to grind skills all day long, which was fun at first but after keeping my character swimming against a bridge for 6 straight hours only to get my Athletics and health up, I was beginning to question what am I doing, and whether I'm actually playing anything. And after you grind, the game stopped being challenging around level 16-20, so you just broke it. You could just play it without caring about the attribute bonuses, but then your character was a weakling and you would have tough fights everywhere you turned. Then there's the much acclaimed lack of pointy arrows to guide your way. Which was excellent way to explore the land, but after the 50th Cliff Racer, Corpus/Ash zombie and the millionth Nix Hound on your way, eventually you started to grow tired and just wanted to get there already so you could start the bloody quest.
Morrowind is a game for different times. You need to invest a lot of energy and time into it, and you can't just ask for a savegame for a level 10 character, because it doesn't get any better later on, it gets worse. You might as well go on ahead and ask for a savegame for a level 60 character who defeated Dagoth Ur and be done with it
Oblivion is the middle ground between Morrowind and Skyrim - decent graphics, fast travel, rich enough content and an over all excellent game, but Bethesda always have to ruin something in there, they can't just make everything perfect, now can they? The level scaling in that game will get you, eventually. You'll have to grind boring skills and kill your summons over and over and over like there's no tomorrow. Plus the whole Fantasy cliche was old when it was released, let alone now.
Skyrim dealt with every issue from every other Elder Scrolls game. The game is streamlined, fun, not too taxing but can be if you feel like it, you can customize it to your hearts content, make it less streamlined or more, whatever you wish. You can make it a pick up and play kinda game or a serious 6 hours long romp through the countryside, looking for dungeons and treasures kinda game. But why oh why did they have to be so lazy at the end and botch the whole guilds and quests? A few short quests and I'm an archmage? Really? I mean, really?! A few seconds ago I was a whelp, a mere hours later and I'm the head of the Companions? REALLY?! Bah. I honestly felt like slow golf clapping to their quest lines.
Skyrim is definitely the leap forward this series very much needed, but I really hope they'll get it eventually with the next game. I have my hopes up, because they did iron out most of the issues with their character system already.
But yeah, based on what you wrote, sorry to break it to you, but Morrowind is not for you. Not with today's standards, anyway. -
I'm playing through Fallout 3 GOTY again (with no mods!) Since my wife stole it from me the first time on xbox and I am having a blast. This is just after finishing new vegas and skyrim. I tried to go back and play oblivion (same wife problem
) and I just couldn't get into it even modded up after playing skyrim. I hope the next TES game is in Elsewyr or a combo of a new provinces.

I tried playing Fallout 3 GOTY but that kept freezing on my like every 5 minutes. I looked online for solutions and tried every little thing that people claimed to work but it still kept freezing. I uninstalled it yesterday after the 200th crash. I think it's pretty ridiculous that they would release a game that obviously has a lot of errors.

True, Bethesda's games are far from stable, but what you describe looks more like a specific conflict with your hardware and the game, rather than entirely the game's fault.
Have updated your drivers? Tried playing without mods? Set your driver settings (AMD's CCC) to the default settings (no AA, multisampling, prerendering and all this nonesense AMD keep inserting into their drivers) so only the game 'decides' the AA settings? -
Thanks for the tips guys. I actually installed Morroblivon. AWESOME! If you're looking for a more "modern" feeling Morrowind it's a great choice. And as long as you follow the instructions on the website it's a piece of cake (esp with STEAM). Welcome | Morroblivion: The Resurrection of Morrowind

Morroblivion?! =O thats sounds really delicious ;x / (looking for my Morrowind and Oblivion games). THe mechanics of Morrowind may be broken as hell, and the game can be annoying as well ( Cliff Racer), but hay!, its Morrowind we all love and remember from our "childhood".

Look up Skywind guys. =]

I do agree with some of the quests being tedious in Skyrim but I find it to be the best game out of the series. Thieves guild quest line was boring and so is going through the College of Winterhold quests but the Dark Brotherhood quest line and the main quest line is just amazing.

iv tried playing morrowind again, but i just cant get used to all the text dialogue lol. Used to play it in highschool a lot but i guess i just cant get past some of its oldness.
Tribunal was an awesome expansion too... just felt so rich and alive. I remember getting owned by certain mobs and being like whoa. -
There is a pretty awesome overhaul of Morrowind called Morrowind Rebirth over at moddb if you want to replay it now with some added/improved/fixed elements: Link
Also for those that haven't tried it, Nehrim is a mind blowing mod for Oblivion (well its a full conversion with voice acting and an entirely new world). Just be aware that the meshes aren't all that optimized in Nehrim (I believe most/all of the world was hand crafted) so performance can drop quite dramatically in certain areas (I had a dual sli GTX580 desktop). Also the voice acting is in German but there are English subtitles/translations for pretty much everything in the game. The gameplay has also been tweaked quite a bit, actual combat still works the same in its clunky-ish fashion. The main change is in regards to levelling which is quite different (and much better imo).
If you are interested grab it from moddb: Link
