The previous 2 installments of TES series (TES3: Morrowind, and TES4: Oblivion) were legendary in their own rights and each revolutionized open-world sand-box gaming during their release years. No doubt TES5 will up the bar yet again.

This game will like all games be based in DX9 because its a console game. Thats not saying it won't take advantage of certain DX11 features and so forth, that said the 360 gameplay looks spectacular, 2 random dragon battle encounters. I like how the developer was like even in testing the game the dragons are randomly coded AI and even they can't predict what they will do or attack. some texutres and models look a bit dated, like the mammoth but overall they do a good job hiding the age of consoles and have an amazing looking game, with gameplay to match.

Also guys apparently a 30-minute demo live gameplay footage will be generated tomorrow @ E3 (not pre-recorded afaik), so looking forward to that.

First of all, obviously if your PC display is 1920x1080 or better it's going to look a lot better then the 1280x720 display for Xbox or PS3.

Also, it's confirmed that it will have DX11 optimization features (but not DX11 eye-candy features), as well as higher res textures (hopefully 2048x2048, but probably it will be 1056x1056), and different UI for PC is confirmed.

Most likely there will be better quality shadows and lighting effects, but this is not confirmed.

BTW, OP may want to add two new videos from June 8 (one already happened, the other will be in a little over 2 hrs from now)

    June 8 Skyrim Interviews/Gameplay Demos
11am PST Gamespot Todd Howard Interview and Demo ( footage seems to be the same as June 7 demo)
5pm PST IGN 20 minute Skyrim preview

Enjoy the game for what it is, the 360 footage and gameplay isn't even that bad, it looks stunning for a console game. Get off the high horse and become a gamer. The game is definitely not lacking in any department, gameplay, audio, graphics.

What I'd be interested in seeing is Skyrim played on the Wii U, For the reason of that extra touch screen in the controller, picking locks using your fingers lifting the the bolts, pick pocketing a person and seeing the contents of the pouch or pocket on the second screen, selecting spells or weapons on the fly by easily pressing on the name in a list on the touch screen, an extra map that doesn't require you to stop and look, creating items by playing a mini game that puts the materials together cooking mama style, the possibilities are endless. That extra screen makes sooo much sense.

The one good thing about a game compatible with 6 year old consoles is that we know an average gaming notebook will run it well.

This won't last long though since next generation games are probably being developed right now.

I am guessing here but to run those(with decent fps and HD and medium to max settings) we will need next year mobile gpus tech. GTX 600m series and ATI HD 7000m series and beyond, actually the GTX 800m series and the HD 10000m series would be ideal both 2 years and half rom now.

    Saving 485m and 580m and 6970 and 6990 m for a while perhaps.

Lol, let's hope they don't go that far. Also, I doubt the ATI/AMD would name their new cards HD 10000m series....that's just awkward. I'm mildly interested in this game however, looks promising.

I wonder if Oblivion was ported to PC?
I really don`t like the idea that Skyrim is made for consoles and ported to PC. Last game I played that followed this was Portal 2 and it lost lots of challenging and fun maps because it was too hard to finish them with a controller. That sucked.

Maybe the graphics will suffer because of this too...

Oblivion is definitely not a console port, this is coming from a ps3 owner first who has oblivion on ps3, and boy was that a mistake. The Menus are near impossible to navigate with dpads and anolog sticks, everything about the game is better suited to a keyboard and mouse. Stuff like dual spell casting would seem to be awkward with a keyboard but im sure bathesda will figure it out. I think Portal 2 becoming easier was to appeal to a wider crowd who couldn't figure out complex puzzle gameplay because there are some pretty hard maneuvers to pull off controller or not.

Man I hope thats reconfigurable then, right clicking all the time for sword swings will be annoying, unless your able to put the sword in the left hand of the character in which case would still be annoying for a right handed thinker like me. If thats the case Ill have to play with my nunchuck controller mouse combo.

Oblivion was pretty console-centric and it turned out just fine.

I'm not worried about Skyrim. We'll get the construction set and before you know it the game will be modded to hell and back. I'm sure it'll be buggy for a while (what Bethesda game hasn't been?) but there will be community-made patches to address whatever Bethesda doesn't fix themselves.
As Tree_Burner said, there are plenty of people who love Oblivion, myself included. I've got about 200 hours in it according to Steam, and I'm just starting a new playthrough with some different mods.

Try playing it again with a good mod or several. It can really make the experience something else. Check out Qarl's Texture Pack and Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, for starters.
To a PC gamer, Oblivion seems quite consolized. The UI elements are hilariously large, to the point that there are several UI overhaul mods to make everything smaller and more PC-friendly.

I gotta say, the only thing I'm truly worried about with Skyrim, is if they went and made the random dragon encounters, anything like the HORRIBLE cliff racers from Morrowind. They were beyond irritating!!!! Howard mentioned in the E3 demo, that they really don't know when/where they'll attack since they're unscripted. Said they can even attack in packs!!!!!

Pests like Cliff Racers are one thing, but boss level/dragon fights happening every few minutes, will literally ruin the game.

My fingers are crossed that they didn't make an epic mistake with the frequency of the dragon encounters. I want them to be epic, stressful, scary. Not irritating...

"The previous 2"? What are Arena and Daggerfall, then - chopped liver?

Well, if you can dual wield swords, and dual wield SHIELDS, then I don't really see any reasons why you couldn't fight left-handed.

Why would you want to map the right hand to left click, though? That's just weird.

I'm afraid I was too young when daggerfall let alone arena came out. They did help forge the earliest basis for free-roam gaming genres but really Morrowind was the one that pulled it altogether into a nice new 3D engine and huge world. Oblivion 'streamlined' (a bit too excessively) on that and was just as successful mainly because really, these games that Besthesda made never had many big-shot competitors.

If you watch the E3 demo you can dual wield swords and spells, you see him in the video executing a bad guy by holding a sword over the back of his head and sticking the other in his gut lol. Holding 2 spells you can combine them to make a more powerful version of said spell, not sure if you can mix and match tho.

Todd Howard mentioned in a couple of interviews in April that there are spell combos you can unlock by arming different spells in your left and right hand.

For example, Circle of Protection + Frost = a trap spell you can cast on the ground that sends shards of ice flying through enemy flesh when they step on the circle.

This game in all aspects is upping the bar drastically for the series. Oblivion added some neat systems to the genre that has never been seen before. They must have looked back and said "Wow oblivion is really robotic, we can do way better than that!". Im excited for the next one to be some hybrid virtually motion controlled marvel were you really are taken into another virtual world.

So far the videos look amazing, and I'm happy they are adding/twisting some of the game features (dragon encounters, spell mixing, shouts, variable quests) so that it will not end up like Oblivion with a new graphical engine.

Also I hope that the '150 dungeos' now will look like more varied than the one in Oblivion (no more than 5 grand variants).

It's still gonna be at most a dozen themes though; most likely the dungeons will still be biome based. The number 150 is just the physical number of dungeons, each will be unique but it's unreasonable to have each dungeon have a different color / vegetation / rock theme.

Although it wouldn't hurt to have a different boss in each of the 150 dungeons :p That shouldn't be hard to implement theoretically.

I'll much prefer Skyrim/Oblivion's biome/assembly dungeons where each, in the end, has it's own layout at least, over DA2's single cave map with different doorwalls.

Looking forward to this. Along with being a TES fan, I've always liked Nords in the Elder Scrolls series, so it'll be interesting to get to explore their homeland. I always pictured it being barren and snowy like Solstheim in Morrowind.

Certainly I am not expecting 150 unique dungeons, but at least several (more than 3) templates for each kind of dungeon. In any case this is a minor detail in the whole picture of TES V... which seems it will rock!! :D

New Interview with Skyrim Production Director Ashley Cheng

Confirmed that there are at least 4 factions. He mentions there is a hint of the 4th faction in the private 30 min press demo.

This hint was reported by other journalists who saw that demo as being a note found on a dead Orc mentioning the Dark Brotherhood.

It is interesting to note a couple of new things from this interview

    1. Armor is limited to Boots, Gauntlets, Helmet, Cuirass+Greaves combined
    2. Thieves' Guild is in Riften, College of Winterhold is in Winterhold (big surprise there) and Companions is in Whiterun. So no local thieves guild or companions office in every city.
    3. Lots of cooking recipes

All the Elder Scrolls games are single-player; no MMO's.

I would personally recommend Oblivion for your first ES game; it's a bit easier to get into than Morrowind, and Daggerfall and Arena are often hard for new players to enjoy because of how old they are.

My advice: give Oblivion a solid play-through, and try some mods. Ideally, play it unmodded first, but if you get comfortable enough with it before finishing, you can try some new stuff. If you beat that and you enjoy it, then I recommend playing Morrowind. You should easily be able to do that before Skyrim comes out, even with a casual playing schedule.

One tip when playing ANY Besthesda game: don't try to follow the main storyline, the sidequests (especially certain sidequest chains, which are huge, almost as long as the main storyline) are unmatched in terms of variety, fun, and sheer amount.

I'll start with Morrowind, then do Oblivion, and then finally Skyrim.

    How does that sound?
