Now that most of the scout updates are revealed, what are your thoughts on the new weapons/maps? I'm going to have to say that I'm quite disappointed with the new weapons...
The force-a-nature wont be all that useful for killing things, unless they gave it a huge damage boost. Reloading slowly and knocking your enemies away is no way to kill things as a scout, the only way you can do any damage is by being in their face and close so they have trouble aiming at you, if you knock them away they have that extra time to aim while you run back to them.
the new bat loses the ability to double jump...
the energy drink might be useful, but I will have to see how that plays and how long it lasts and stuff.
What I think may have worked better was if the bat knocked people back, but lost swing speed or something, and maybe the primary weapon slowed people down or something.
Right now, even a good scout has trouble topping the scoreboard regularly, I was hoping this update would help with that but they kind of went the other way with this one I would say... nobody is going to be doing any damage hitting baseballs at people or knocking them away.
Just my thoughts... I know it's long and somewhat negative but I can't wait to see how it plays, hopefully I'm wrong about the whole thing because scout is a really fun class and I was hoping it would be made more useful on the battlefield.
Don't get me wrong though, I like that valve does this for free and I'm looking forward to the release!

The baseball bat lets you hit baseballs at people, so a projectile that can stun and enemy and leave them open to attacks, can also stun invulnerable people. Other scouts can hit it back at them though, and it makes you lose the double jump ability.
The energy drink makes you faster? I'd assume.. But takes away the pistol?
The double barrel shotgun appears to have much more damage, knocks the victim back, but also knocks you back if your in mid air, and has to be reloaded every shot.
It looks like everything has it's drawbacks, and it's pretty balanced. We'll see, but I can't really see why any of this would be bad? looks like some great new stuff. -
I like it. Energy Drink + New Shotgun + New Bat = Instant 1on1 pwnage.
Just drink the drink, hit a baseball, shoot them twice, finish them off with the bat, and run away.
I also really like the new gun because as a scout i like to do a little bit of damage and then run back. After likely 1-2 good shots with this new gun you can probably risk running in to finish whoever you injured off. -
New Shotgun = triple-jump?
Also, I think it'll be useful for knocking people back while capping. Not a huge fan of the new bat though, seems to put the scout in more of a long-range support role.
However, the new achievements don't look too hard to get (I thought Pyro was easy, Heavy was hard). -
Funny, I thought Heavy was easy. It just depends on what classes you play and are good at.
-
Now's a good time to go ahead and get the heavy and medic achievements that involve killing scouts since we all know 75% of the people playing TF2 after new achievements are released have to get them, even if they will never play that class again... Not to mention they will all be really bad at scout so it shouldn't be hard
Natasha is REALLY annoying to a scout, so this is a great time to go ahead and do that (that's my plan for this weekend). Medics with the blutsauger are also really strong against scouts so it should be easy to get those achievements if you don't have them.

I wonder what part of the update will they be shipping today. I want the drink and the new shotgun! not a big fan of the sandman though.
-
I want the payload race map (see the background on thursday's (?) notification - it looks like there is a red cart and a blue cart both going up a ramp... racing?) and the new maps like egypt and the other one which I can't remember and can't look up since I'm at work...
-
I'll be visiting grad schools so I'll miss the update for a bit
Scout's my favorite class too, boooo -
oooh this will be a fun time to be pyro
-
. I think he's way too overpowered. I am hoping the Scout will be able to stand against him with this update and not just die in 2 seconds when turned on fire. Maybe I'll start thinking of playing TF2 like I did before.
-
The update should be around any minute. Can't wait!
-
Do us all a favor and post in the thread when it goes live. I know it will be tempting to just hop right in and play, but think of us.
-
The Force-of-Nature definitely has a huge damage boost. No sources or evidence, but it wouldn't make any sense if it didn't.
I'm guessing from this achievement that it probably crits from behind as well.
-
YES YES YES its updating!!!! cant wait!!
-
Update's out. Freaking disappointment.

downloading the update now!
My download gets stuck and restarts Q_Q -
Why is it a dissapointment cathy?

Man, I am so PUMPED for that egypt map! I played it once before on a custom map server, and it was absolutely PERFECT for spies, as it's loaded with small nooks, crannies, and jumping platforms. I'm just crossing my fingers for a 24/7 egypt server

Haha, I can't believe that it actually worked! Most of the time a pyro ruins the all-spy thing.
-
The lack of a new video or performance increases make me somewhat sad
But hey, free content.
Lotsa scoots runnin' around.
Charcoal on legs.
Burnemgood. -
Half these achievements require other achievements and unlockables to complete. That's ridiculous.
-
at least 5 of them take the bat to unlock...

After playing some, this is a bad update. It requires you to do things you wouldn't do in the course of gameplay. A lot of it is chance. No Red Scout should be rushing the cart, so you won't get that in general gameplay.
Heavy was definitely the best update so far in terms of quality achievements. -
Why do they keep beefing up the spy!?
Any decent sniper will hate the ability for an enemy spy to see who they are... That sniper you just shot in the face three times in a row? Now he can go spy and quickly get you back without having to guess which of the snipers you are.
I thought spy was fun before they released the metal replenishes cloak thing, then that just made it too easy and no more of the "dang he found me, now I gotta be really sneaky to get away," instead it's more like "I'll just go get that metal over there and then walk away casually." I enjoyed the thrill of spy before, it might be just me but they ruined it by making it easier.
Sadly I can't even try the update till thursday -

Yes, they did make spy quite a bit easier with the metal update, especially since the short time period of a cloak was the biggest obstacle one had to avoid. Although I am happy about the fact that the cloak can replenish via dispenser.
-
The thing I learned about the Spy metal cloak update is that bad spies are bad spies, period. A bad spy can just stab snipers and sap teleport exits. Good spies could already wreak havoc, with metal to recharge cloak, they're a freaking nightmare.
-
So, has anyone tried it yet? I haven't had a chance yet and all the gaming sites are blocked by work
Any thoughts now that you've tried it? -
-
I used to play on a server with a guy who was by far the best spy I've seen in TF2. Even with Pyro spam he'd consistently get 1-3 backstabs per life at minimum, I have no idea how he did it but he regularly doubled up 2nd place on the leaderboard. Engineers could not keep a sentry up at all and Medics could not get ubers.
Pyros are annoying and there's nothing you can do if one decides to spam in front of you when you're going by, but good spies manage to avoid it somehow. -
You have to modify your style of play imo with the new gun.
TF2 - thoughts on scout update?
