having a lil problem, randomly (sometimes quickly, sometimes after 3 games) the graphics will go nutty. the game will keep playing but i cant do anything. then i have to ctr+alt+del and shut down and it'll tell me hl2.exe is not responding ... it seems like its only doing this on tf2 and not portal or hl2

I think this happened to me once not sure if its the same thing.
My best recomendation off hand is make sure you have the newest video drivers 163.75 (asuming you have a newer nvidia card) and also new sound drivers never hurt anybody. -
It's probably just TF2. They have some glitches still. It should be ironed out soon enough.

wow, i cant even play it now. it does it everytime i start the game within about 2 minutes the graphics will go all nuts and i'll hear the game still runnig and me shooting... ive tried updating everything and messing with the settings but no luck
weird how it was going fine earlier but now its all messed up. anyone know why hl2.exe or whatever would stop responding? im using 8700mGT

oddd. i just played a game on a diferent map other than 2fort and it was fine, then i play 2fort and it does it. how can it be just this map?

Has anyone else ran into this problem with map 2fort? this problem is just plain weird. sometimes i'll play for 30 minutes without the graphics going nuts on me and the game crashing.. sometimes i'll get 2 minutes...
it hasn't crashed yet when i play the map in window mode but when i play fullscreen it'll crash like 95% of the time... very annoying considering its the one map that i love the most. i've tried messing with all the settings and stuff and nothing seems to stop the hl2.exe from crashing on this map.
if anyone has this problem or know of a solution please let me know, its really annoying! ;o -
Wow... you got TF2 to work?

Did you update to 163.75 drivers? I had alot of glitches with TF2 till I updated to those, now virutally no probs.
-
What does "go crazy" look like? Maybe try to take a screenshot if you can. It might be artifacting from overheating. Does it happen with any other graphic-intensive games?
As the other said, have you installed 163.75? (link goes to 32-bit Vista)
I've had all kind of freaky graphics flip-outs over the years that were solved with new drivers (especially with new games - and recent drivers have had bug fixes/performance improvements specific to TF2.) -

Make sure FRAPS is disabled. I had weird artifacting with TF2, HL2 and Portal with FRAPS enabled under Vista x64.
Also, like others have mentioned, try updating graphics drivers.
Sometimes, in HL2 and TF2, my screen will go black and I will hear a repeating, looping sound. Usually I can fix this by hitting esc (to go to the in-game menu) and then ctrl-alt-deleting or alt-tabbing out of the game, then back in. The screen will refresh to the menu. -
I've been having a similar problem. I use my dell xps m170 laptop to play and TF 2 runs great, every map runs fine except the 2fort map. I sometimes get the weird graphic glitches but most of the time the game will stutter then end up freezing and locking my pc. It usually happens when I go to the center of the map then it seems like i'm going through a huge lag spike only it's not lag, then the pc freezes.
The thing that sucks about my dell is they havent supported new drivers for almost 2 years on the thing and I cant simply download new drivers from nvidia. They have to be "allowed" to work with my laptop or they wont install. -
I also had this issue on my 5791 with an 8700mGT, it was simple to fix, get the latest drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com

I'm runnign the 163.75. Severe stability issues.
Crashes in TF2 in random intervals, where i get the "nvidia driver nvvvkdm has stopped working and has recovered" message. Sometimes I crash out of game sometimes I can recover and stay in game.
Blue screen crashes on sleep resume, and freezes when notebook has been idle for too long.
The last stable graphics driver i had was 165.01, but those run 3d games at slllllllllooooooooowwwwwwwwww speeds.
I'm running a macbook pro with a 256mb 8600M GT, I'm not sure if it's my macbook or if the drivers are just shoddy. -
-
yep, same problem with me center of 2fort! =(.
Pretty shady of Valve to release a faulty game, no? -
I have exactly the same problem, right down to the same map. Nothing I try seems to make any difference. What type of laptop do you have? I have an HP Pavilion dv9000; nVidia card and all that jazz.
