What kind of frames do you get with that? Considering it's unplayably laggy for me at 800x600 on my 1.6GHz dual-core Atom and ION graphics with DX8 forced, I can't imagine that gets anything more than single digits.

The Atom is in-order I believe, while the SU4100 he has is an OOO architecture. It's a much faster CPU, and the Source engine is pretty dependent on CPU speed.
-
Yeah Atom just sucks period. I learned that the hard way after going through a few netbooks. Doesn't matter CPU speed they just don't have the raw horsepower for much of anything.
My SU4100 @ 1.6GHz gets about 20-25fps with DirectX 9. I forgot I can force DirectX 8, I will try that and see what happens. -
I wonder how much more "premium" features they will add now. I know it's just the items for now but who knows? That's the road that pretty much every F2P game goes down on. Still, I think it's great that they decided to make it F2P.

I wouldn't worry about TF2 becoming pay-to-win. Any item that affects gameplay can be randomly dropped or crafted, not just bought, and even free players can receive trades; they just can't give anything. The only major things that don't randomly drop are keys, which open crates that contain things that can randomly drop anyway (except unusual hats, but once again, nothing game-changing).
Free-to-play isn't an inherently bad system; it's just that the majority of games have a poor implementation of it. I like to think Valve is a little smarter than that. -
Although valve haven't made it so that there are things you can't craft/drop, it's very clrear that they do want you to buy them. If you look at the weapons in the uber update, some of them even require refined. Comapre this to before where weapons usually only needed 1 reclaimed max.

Me and my brother have been enjoying TF2 so much lately.
I especially love 32 player servers for the extra mayhem.
Hes on F2P account while i got TF2 from The Orange Box way back in 2007.
Now i just gotta catch them all so o can become the ultimate pokem.... I mean hat collector. ;3 -
I don't even know what I'm doing in the game. I just be engineer and build portals and dispensers and turrets. I don't even know how to gain more metal though. always says I need more metal. Only way I've been able to is die. So I go charge into battle, get a couple kills then build more or upgrade my machines.
-
^ you can collect more metal from weapons of dead players, dispensers, or ammo crates.

Does anyone know if you are able to give extra items you have in your inventory to f2p players?

Well, I bought the game way back before orange box. Played maybe a couple dozen hours, then didn't play since, so guess have "veteran" status from owning it so long, lol.
I like support roles because I seem to have lost the knack for the fast twitch aim and shoot. So as a noob being "behind the lines" but still gaining points supporting the team works better for me.
The hit box is confusing too. Plug all six rounds from a shotgun into someone's face at close range and they still don't die. Or rocket one right at their feet with minimal damage and they kill you with a rocket that lands ten feet from me... Always has bugged me in these games. Not sure how people can get so accurate, or why others are better at it than me.
Same thing with BFBC2. I have logged over 350 hours in that game and at times even though I get a half mag emptied into someone before they even raise their weapon, they barely get bruised, and I die by one bullet from an uzi. -
Weapons in TF2 don't do as much damage as you'd expect. Shotguns will take multiple meatshots to take down a medium-health class. As for rockets, different launchers have different stats. The Direct Hit, for instance, does more damage than the others, but with a much smaller blast radius so you pretty much have to land the rocket directly on your target. The other launchers are more forgiving with aim thanks to larger splash.

Tried this game a few years ago, and it never really catched me. But now it turned into Free to Play, and I decided to give it a go again and wow. This time it sucked me in. I think it has something to do with my friends also have picked it up, and we are gaming it together.
I really like the fast paced gameplay and the teamwork in this game (gunner and medic together rocks!). It is also really fun to build a defence as engineer with a couple of friends - they will never break through xD!
And not to mention the gameplay as a spy. It reminds me a little of Wolfenstein ET, and I like it xD! Stabbing the enemy in the back is fun, and they can't do anything, because BAM, then you are invisible again.
Download it guys! It is definitely worth a try. -
If someone needs a good Heavy, I'm available
I love being the Heavy, it's the class that suits me like a glove. After the heavy it's the spy, and then the demoman. -
Heh, then you must be a good medic. As I'm a good heavy, you can back me up -

How could I forget about the weapons I use the most... /pacefalm -
Is it just me or are there so many spies running around with Your eternal reward recently? I've pretty much been solidly playing pyro just to deal with them.
-
I've been seeing a lot of Spies using that ever since it was released...now it's mostly that and the Conniver's Kunai. People have a tendency to think the newest items are the best (although the YER is pretty useful).
-
If I'm honest, quite often the default weapons are the best. For example, the scattergun or the sniper rifle are arguabl the best weapons for their class. Rarely would you see someone in competative play use a FAN or a sydney sleeper.
-
Only occasion where regular rocket launcher may be more advantageous would be cart defense mode where you just want to impose as much splash damage around the cart as possible. -
I use the vanilla rocket launcher pretty much 100% of the time. The DH is just not reliable enough beyond close range, or firing into large groups of enemies where a hit is pretty much guaranteed. The Liberty Launcher is nice, but I do a lot of rocket jumping attacks, and if I jump and shoot one from the air, that 4th rocket in the tube really matters.
TF2 going F2P? :O
