I just beat the game ... I'm the best starfighter pilot in the galaxy (living, that is
).
... and I just started a new campaign. This time my goal is to do all the missions with all secondary/bonus goals completed. It's going to be more difficult since I don't even know what all of them are. -

Ouch, yeah that's going to be tricky. I remember managing to get most of them, but all of them! Ow!!

When I last played the Tie Fighter game, it looked like this:

Tie Fighter looked better than that

I got X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter running at least on my m18x but I'm having Video problems. The first time I ran it it was OK but every time I go into the mission now the images ghost on the screen and after a few seconds I can't see anything. I'm using a PS3 Controller to play. From what I can understand you can also get X-Wing and Tie-Fighter CE working on windows 7 64-bit but you need a custom installer from here:

Tie-Fighter=No Shields=No Fun....

sigh... I remember breaking 2 china made joysticks because of this game.
Tie fighter > x-wing for me, then there's also x-wing alliance which was good (i think there's still an active mod community for that game).
rebel assault anyone? -

Besides, by the time you got them you were usually a better pilot for NOT having had them, which meant the game could throw bigger missions at you now you had the shields. -
You, sir, have not flown a TIE Defender
It's a shame that XvT, a game that's now almost 15 years old, could have huge open-ended missions with different objectives for both teams, the ability to play the same mission from both sides (still with different objectives), and the ability to do the same with up to 16 (I think?) players at the same time, all on mid-'90s hardware. Think of the possibilities if they were developing it today.
...instead we get MW3
On a side note, does anyone know how to get anti-aliasing to work with XvT (MLAA) or XWA (can force it using RadeonPro) without turning the stars black? -

I dug up my old joystick, a Logitech Force Feedback 3D, but unfortunately it's unusable as it cannot be calibrated. The stick no longer centers properly.
So to replace it I got this:
Amazon.com: Saitek CCB442370002/04/1 Cyborg V.1 Flight Stick: Electronics
Waiting for it to arrive in the mail. -

Anyone used to like the Rogue Squadron series as well?

On the N64. Wasn't really the same sort of experience though

I've been using my Saitek Cyborg V.1 joystick for two weeks now and it is great. And it was only $22. Unfortunately it only functions as a two-axis joystick (I have no rudder or throttle control on the stick itself); I can set it to a four-axis in DOSBOX settings but the cursor just goes crazy. I think the issue is DOSBOX not emulating it correctly .....
Anyone else here using a joystick with TIE Fighter? -
I actually have an old Microsoft Sidewinder with a gameport interface and PC that has a gameport (I think) with Windows 98. I may have to load it up on there and play. Has an AthlonXP of some sort, with maybe 512MB RAM, 80GB IDE HDD, and actually a 6600 GT (way overpowered for the system, lol).
TIE Fighter - that's right - calling all pilots
