    Hi guys,

I need your expertise. I looked everywhere and I could not find any working solution.

I have a Nvidia 8400M Geforce running vista 32. I tried get a display on the TV , but no luck so far.

I want to specify that the cable works fine with my old dell inspiron 5100. With my xps 1530 , it does not see that the tv is connected. when I force to connect it says it could not find it. and it gives me the HDTV option instead of the TV option. I does flickers for a split second and go back to the laptop display.

I upgraded the driver, but still no luck. I am not quite sure what else to do. I attached the picture of the cable.

Any advice, this is driving me crazy.

    check the resolution first!!
Like if you TV supports upto 1024X768 then first put your laptop resolution to the supported one and then restart the computer and u r set to go.

I lowered the resolution to 800 X 600 but that did not work. Could the resolution still to high and that is why it is not working?

I guess 800 is the standard resolutiotn which any TV supports. First of all, lower ur laptop resolution and restart. While it is in procedure to restarting, then plug in the ps2 to tv, then it will only show up in TV after it logs upto windows. Then, if you cannot see then just go around the TV/Video. I guess there are options like Component 1, Component2, Or Video 1,Video 2 ....just go through it and it will fit the TV resolution and work. This is how I did and also worked on my friends.

Even if it didnt worked then there must be some problem with your Svideo port in TV as well as Laptop or the Ps2 cable. There is no way ur TV doesnot support it.

Normally, there should be an auto detect button combination, Fn+F8 in my case.
There should be either a tv logo or CRT/LCD impring on one of the F keys.
    Fn+(that F key) should work.

What video card driver are you using? It is unlikely to be the problem but make sure you got the latest from your manufacturer.

    Hi, guys,

I have the latest drivers from the manufacter. I try to troubleshoot with some dell technician and he could not figure it out. HE said the problem can be either vista, the refresh rate that vista allows not being supported by the tv. What do you guys think?

    Thanks again for helping me.

Ok guys, you know how those things work so you might be able to explain this to me.

I have been looking around and I found a trick, which I am afraid to use on a permanent basis. Some guy advice to connect pin 1 and 3 on the s-video output with a little wire. I did it, the laptop recognize t the device as TV for the fist time and everything worked like it should.

Now, it's all great but I am afraid to use it all the time, it just does not seem very safe and I would hate to fry my graphic card or worse my computer.

So, if someone understand why it works with the wire maybe I can figure out a safer way to fix the problem.

PS: Some people on the forum where I found the solution, thought it was because the old computer had a 4 pin s-video instead of a 7 pin out put but I doubt it because my old computer has a 7 pin output too and it works fine.

Anyway, any idea, I would love to understand the mechanism behind the wire solution.

If it's working, nothing should be coming to any harm.

Heres a pinout guide that should help you understand what each hole does.
