Team Fortress 2 use to run really smoothly for me but me and alot of other people have this problem. Sometimes the game will freeze up for a few seconds and the sound will loop in the backgroun until it unfreezes. I have tried Verifying Game files, Defraging my HDD, Defraging me games files, Quiet HDD, etc

    My Computer specs are
intel core 2 duo 2.53 ghz processor
    4 gbs of ram
    Nvidia 9600m GT
    500 gbs HDD

Is there anyway to fix this?

Have you excluded your "Steam/appcache/stats" folder from your virus software? This is a problem for many people.

Valve's update system for that game is just terrible. Try reinstalling it.

I have MSE and I excluded Steam/appcache/stats in files and locations. Should I allow it also for file types and processes?

Go into your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam and delete ClientRegistry.blob

This will force Steam to auto update. Or you could try verifying TF2 files. If worst comes to worse purge TF2 from your system and grab a lawn chair as TF2 is a pretty large download.

TF2 has been weird for me on the newest nvidia drivers (260.99) Maybe it's that? It just feels kind of hitchy with framerate dips that are too low. When the game freezes and the sound loops is your HDD getting maxed out? Are you maxing out your system memory? TF2 especially since the latest update uses a lot more memory then it used to.

Sorry, but what does it mean to max out your systems memory?

Also I turned on gamebooster and that helped. But it still freezes. I guess I will have to reinstall it but what folder do I save to keep my stats?

Ok I'm not sure if this is the problem. But when I was playign New vegas my game froze a few times but when it did I heard a clicking noise coming from my HDD. Now in tf2 I dont hear a clicking noise ( Mainly because there is alot of noise so I woudlnt notice) But I think that might be why I am getting lag. I can't take it anymore its making my game unplayable.

Your hard drive may be on it's way out. Back up everything irreplaceable, and then do a disk check and defrag.

This is most likely the game's fault, as I played L4D with friends a few days ago and noticed the issue. We all got some weird stutter at the same time that looked mostly like the CPU messing up.

I don't think so. I had 2 other laptops (Replaced them for other reasons) And they all made a clicking noise.
