So I've had my Inspiron 1520 for a while and I just decided to buy tf2 to play. Problem is I'm suffering for horrendously terrible frame rates <15 FPS when there is no one around me. I've done a bit googling and everyone says my specs should beable to run this game at 30-60 fps on decent settings.

I've tried lowering all graphs and resolution. I've updated the latest drivers. I can't for my life figure out what is wrong. I could have driver problems outside of my graphics, but I have no idea. Any clues?

    Inspiron 1520
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    Geforce 8600M GT
    Centrino Duo 2.0 Ghz
    4gb RAM

NOTE: I'm running this to an old CRT monitor while I'm at home playing on at old school 1024 pixil resolution cause my backlight blew out.

It might be rendering both screens still and cutting you frame rate in half.. Make sure you disable the native laptop screen.

Also, make sure you're plugged in and on balanced or high-performance battery mode.

Interesting. My backlight (inverter I think) also recently stopped working on my Inspiron 1520. I've also been running it on an old monitor, but I've had no framerate issues (in fact, I'm getting better fps since I'm at a lower resolution).

i've switched my screen to "projector only" so my laptop monitor is not used at all. also, I'm running on AC power since my battery out on me in under 5 minutes.
