I just started beta testing/previewing Tera and so far I'm very impressed with the playstyle...it's amazingly fun with a 360 controller. Performance-wise, it's decent. How is it running for you guys?
-
Runs very good on my notebook, but i dont see myself buying this game once its done with closed / open beta phase.
But it does play nice with a controller. -
graphics looks impressive
-
Great graphics, I like the combat system/play. Will be preordering this most likely.
-
Haven't tried it on my clevo with the 540m (a little scared to lol) but it runs perfect on a 512mb 4870. Game is pretty fun, though I am a bit annoyed that you can't really move around while attacking and many combo moves you can't easily stop... it can feel a bit clunky because of it tbh. Questing system is ok, but I'm a bit tired of the same questing system i've been playing now for 7 years.

Also i refuse to support a company who due to a glitch stole who knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars from consumers in mass effect 3 multiplayer, and after well over a month and 50 pages of posts on the forums regarding the glitch still have yet to reimburse lost money or content, its disgusting for such a well known company really -
Tera's combat system is definitely a little more interactive than some other combat systems ~ but I couldn't get past the graphics. I felt that while character textures were well done, the environment seemed very lacking. It was kinda a turn off in terms of immersion.
Also, have you read their quest dialog? 90% (I made that number up) of the quests are completely silly. "Go kill x Pigglings." "Well done, I love Pigglings, they're delicious" ~ seriously? I wasted 10-15 minutes because you had the munchies? -
I'm very happy with the combat system, seems much better than the other MMO I played (WoW). I'm a little freaked out at the inability to modify your class at all though... This is good for overall balance and really making the game about skill... but it just seems odd to me that the weapon type you start with is what you get... forever... Also, no talent points or any way to shape your class into something different than everyone else... AGAIN this is great for balance, but just feels strange a different to me.
Sadly due to my work/family life/schedule I don't think I'll be getting the game... I would love to support them and see how and what they do with TERA. -
I don't know what you guys saw, but I saw another WoW with slightly better graphics.
While I will wait for the actual release and perhaps try it at a friend's house, I won't be buying this one out of the gate.
Tera looks too easy again... just like WoW, max-level newbies will be the norm.
I am hoping for an environment where encounters are difficult and even a single mob can and will kill you if you aren't paying attention so that the players actually have to band together. -
This guy and his videos of Tera is highly recommended. It looks really fun

I may do more beta coverage, I have about 4 hours worth so far.

yay! i got into testing next weekend! i cant wait to see how this game runs on my new laptop!
I signed up for it with 2 email accounts hoping one would hit but they both did, does anyone want the second key? -
I have been enjoying the game quite a bit. I have bought it, but been playing it on my main RIG and not my M11x R1. I will see how the R1 handles the game at release. I have pre-order the digital collectors edition, thats how much I enjoyed it.

The combat system is what intrigues me the most. Ive always played healer classes because ive frankly always thought they seemed to be the most difficult class, because everyone always praises good healers, and ive always done rather well, (was a healer in my guild wars guild and helped us get ranked as high as top 15 in the world)
This adds a level of depth to DPS classes that simply isnt present in any other MMO, and the fact that even heals have to be aimed makes healing even more difficult...yes please! -
thats like aion with slightly better graphics. Not impressed at all.
Considering aion had some gimmicks with flying combat... but... it lacked things to do completely and was boring as (.) even though i occasionally logged in just to amuse myself with cool animation annihilating low level players.
Not to mention it lacked any kind of engaging story and incentive to actually keep fighting. It was like "red is bad, capture castles every 6 hours cause its cool". -
Just ordered Tera Digital Collectors
Also support was cool, its 4am and I popped on to live chat to ask a question. Person was helpful and quick.
Their customer support is supposedly every day including holidays. -

The game had nice graphics and ran well on my laptop except had like 2 spikes where the game would freeze for 2-3 seconds but that was about it. The gameplay is smooth but not polished out enough.. the game to me still feels too slow and i did quest more into it to see if anything changed but not much really it just got continuously boring.
-
So much negative feedback here... Reddit seems super happy with the game, and I'm pretty close to preordering it myself...
I have noticed a huge line in the sand drawn between Tera and Guild Wars 2... Could the negativity be something related to that?
I think it needs plenty of polish, but the combat system alone will, in my opinion, let it be the first super competitive mmo..... I guess only time will tell.

I agree. Even if the controls are a little clunky, with the right tweaking by the devs, they could pull off a nice win with this game.

Be interesting to see how open beta holds up on the 20th. Last release I participated in was Warhammer and despite a computer way over specs, there was video stuttering like mad. Being a well documented widespread problem, to my knowledge they still never fixed it on some cpu/gfx combos. The content is another issue altogether.

Open beta will be open for those who preordered in fifteen minutes.
For those who haven't, it will be up in one day and fifteen minutes.
For those who haven't tried it out, give it a whirl tomorrow and see what you think.

Zomg, hooked! Got a great guild, game runs smooth on the new g74sx in open beta. Now I can't wait to have headstart so I can get my collectors lion mount
P.S. I play on dragonfall, eternal order is the guild, nice people who have been together since closed beta. Required age 17+ to join. -
Tried it, and will not be buying this one on release.
Unless something changes... never.
Good:
-Graphics very pretty
-Performs well on reasonable hardware
-Female toons look amazing
-Combat for both mages and melee is very interesting
-Community is insanely better then WoW.
Bad:
-Glaring balance problems
-Males of many races look more like flat-chested women than men.
-One race played to excess due to glaring balance issue. If you want to pvp or play certain classes you will be forced to pick this race until they fix it.
-A massive excess of little girls and furries everywhere.
-Control scheme annoying (obviously designed with controller in mind and mouse/keyboard is an afterthought)
-Most of the available classes are absolutely pointless. The three main roles have obvious choices, and there is NO reason to take the other classes. The "lesser" choices are passable, but the "better" choices make the party SO much easier.
-Healer classes when not healing do an insanely low amount of damage -
I personally wish games would go back to needed to group to level and progress. Healers shouldn't be able to do very much, if any damage in my opinion. MMOs just keep getting worse and worse. Early MMOs had flaws. But they were much more fun than anything that has come along.
-
remembering ultima online the game actually allowed you to do SO much more then modern games. Only WoW came close to that — you could chop wood, carve rocks, mine ores, skin rabbits, cook food, gather all kinds of stuff, craft, build houses, furniture etc... and thats the FIRST mmorpg i played. Nowadays — WASD + 12345 and you are good to go.

UO was just plain fail... about a week into the game you had done everything there was to do in the game, and all there was left to do was PK people. Nothing in the game took any kind of skill or planning.
EQ1 was the first MMO that required some skill and planning to play.
Epic raids in EQ1 are among my fondest memories in MMOs ever.
The game was so difficult that people banded together into communities even before guilds. (Thanks SoE for ruining EQ.)
Also, the second best healer in EQ1 did 80-90% of the damage of the best DD. Every MMO I have ever played healers (or at least the second-best hybrid ones) could also sub in as a DD. Tera healers do at best 25% of a DD.
They could triple that and it stil wouldn't be broken.
The reason why healers should be able to dish is so that they don't always HAVE to heal. This makes for more healers in endgame who don't go nuts from stupid people asking them why they didn't heal them before they died.
(pick one -> healing is line-of-sight, healing has a maximum range, you aren't in my party and I can't see your HP, I don't even know who or where you are how can I heal you? I am dead, I cannot heal while dead.) -
I've checked this site for related topics and found a few but so far from what I found no ones were really given that helped me out. I'm having horrible FPS issues with TERA. I'm getting 9-11 FPS at all times at all settings. My specs are as follows
Asus G73JH A1
Radeon 5870m
8 GB RAM
i7 Intel Core 720qm (1st Gen)
160 GB SSD
500 GB 7200rpm.... seagate I believe.
I can run any other game around 30 - 60 FPS, Witcher 2 on high settings runs at a steady 30 (with ubersampling, v-sync and SSAO off) so this game should run fine. I experimented with the settings and saw no improvement to FPS rate despite settings, they stayed same throughout. I have 12.3 drivers installed also. I deleted the old drivers, used driver sweeper in safe mode, and reinstalled new drivers and no results. I believe the 5870m is equivalent to a 5770 which is in the class as a 4870. I really enjoy this game but because of the bad FPS rate makes it difficult to PVP. Any help is appreciated thanks. -
im gonna have to check tera out,so many different opinions on it.

I gave Tera a whirl and found it quite refreshing and fun actually. But it wasn't so good that I'm willing to put down a monthly sub for it. A one off purchase for sure but I don't think I can justify $15 a month.
Side note, I have a pretty old machine (Core 2 T5800 with 9600M GS) and it still ran well. I'm thinking that in areas with more players such as pvp or group dungeons I'd have trouble but so far soloing and running around the open areas hasn't been too bad. -
I can't stand the animation locking, and I hate p2p.
Guess I'll just wait for GW2. T_T -
The headstart coupon codes have been sent for tera pre-orders making it so you may take the mailed key and recruit a friend to try it for the weekend.
They say in email "With the codes below, not only will your friends be able to try out TERA all weekend for free, but they can also carry over their characters to the full version of TERA should they choose to buy it!"
So if you have a friend who preordered see if they can hook u up with a key! -
I can't wait for max level pvp... The lower level imbalances were kind of silly, but on the flip side of that... I was able to beat people with two or three levels on me by just out playing them... Ahhh it feels so good.

This opens tonight! Those who pre-order and going for the headstart, what server are you playing?
-
On Basilisk Crag as General Hazard but going to be doing GW2 this weekend. -

Never mind, friend gave me one.
