So here you are with your Gaming laptop on your desk..and it hit's you....How long is your battery life while playing a game? Knowing that it will be bad and for giggles you go ahead an load up your DX10 game of choice.....

That was my story yesterday with my G50Vt-X1...The game was Hawx DX10,everything other than AA set to high....
    The Number?
    From 100% to Automatic shutdown....
    9:35...
Might I add with It in Battery saving made I get about 2hours 20 min.
    What's your numbers?
I would love to see the time on an M17X SLI setup. :D

I say we do this with no gaming, because the game certainly influences this. With overclocks I got 5 mins of battery life with crysis maxed out no AA

No clue... I can't play a game for long enough to properly time it. Too many other responsibilities ;) 3+ hours with the slice.

Really? I can play for about 45 mins from 100% - 15% on a mobility HD 3650, but screen brightness turned all the way down on my battery.

I have my old VAIO laying around. The battery is so screwed up, that if you unplug it from the AC adapter, the laptop shuts down instantly.

Im sure my old W90 with dual 4870's and a overclocked Q9000 to 2.7ghz could win this thread for how short the life is for a brand new laptop :D

If your battery last 30 minutes after years of wear thats normal, but the W90 could probably be dead in 10 minutes gaming on full power.

Once upon a time I took my G1S to a park and let my friend play NFS: Carbon on there for about an hour before it gave up. That's not too bad I guess. Certainly better than 5 minutes!

I have never played games on battery and I never will. It's not the fact that it drains quickly, but when I try to play on battery, my FPS is a lot lower for some reason. So I have never tried it.

I live in Seattle, and back when I was dating a girl who lived across the water, I would game on the ferry on batt, and generally get about an hour or so. With my Sager in sig. I wouldn't normally game on batt, but that was a uniquely serendipitus set of circumstances.

Wouldn't try as on battery cuts off performance 20% and it's really dumb to game on battery.

Don't most laptops throttle the GPU power back a bit when on battery to prevent battery consumption?

I should try this - I never have tried it, as I'd assumed that it'd be about 10 minutes, and where is the fun in that? But I guess the hard drives would be pretty energy efficient in my system; if I played Civ IV or something that didn't have to read a CD, and turned screen brightness down...

    hmmm, now I'm curious.... :)

    (I am OP....)
I set my overclock on my laptop to "Turbo Extreame" when I did it and saw the same frames I see plugged in,no lag...about 32FPS everything looked great...Does anyone think that the overclock also removes the Battery life preservation mode on laptops(That causes the Typical Frame rate drop)?

I can play GTA 4 for an about an hour give or take a minute or two on my 9 cell T61p, not overclocked and fan on max obviously.

Edit: In fact, playing with automatic shutdown disabled playing GTA 4, is how i killed my battery, it was at 20% and i had it plugged in, but not at the outlet, so i was unassumingly gaming when it shut down, thought it was from heat but then found out what had happened. Pulled the battery out then put it back in, no turn on, unplugged then plugged in CMOS battery, no response, so i booted up plugged in and power manager reports that my battery is not functional and can't be charged, have no idea what happened, i'm assuming it's cause i discharged it way too deep or something. Sad cause it was still a great battery for being about 2 years old.

My guess is that your lenovo had an switch to guess that your battery was charging by seeing if anything is plugged in,so I bet that It thought it was charging and it tried to charge a cell of your battery but the inop charger just drained it (due to internal resistance) that is an very common case in lithium batteries such as the batteries used in High Performance R/C cars and planes(You guys should see the wattage people are now capable of pulling...Don't think radioshack,The fastest cars and trucks are electric.)

on my asus g1 its about 3 years old i do a full charge and try load patrician 3, probably one of the least demanding games i have installed after minesweeper and it opens the start up movie and shuts down.

i can watch about 5 minutes of a movie before it shuts down.

~30 minutes with Mass Effect 2, and the battery gets really hot. But performance is the same as on AC power, so I'm happy.
