That one game you really hate that you just could not stop playing?
Maybe because you had to beat a high score, or because you were competing with a friend.
You dred the game, the very idea of playing the game makes you sick but you played it over and over again until you accomplished that one thing, and now you will never ever touch or think about this game again.
What is that game to you?
For me the one that comes to mind is sewer shark on sega cd. That game sucked so bad, but I had to play it because I wanted to beat it so bad. It was all "high tech" at the time as the first cd based system and it cost me a lot of money so I had to beat that game.
Man do I hate that game, and I never did beat it lol, I was too young to be good enough but I got so close a few times.

WoW ?
Leveling and gearing up characters is just awful... -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
This is one reason I have to be careful with MMO's -
The gameplay is nice (from my POV of course) after you finish leveling and gearing up your character. But it takes a lot of time, grinding/farming before that
So basically if you want to enjoy the game you actually have to spend time getting bored to death doing the other two things -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I dont miss having to farm soul shards every living moment of my life when I played with my max lvl Warlock
Had a max lvl Hunter also.
I dont think I will ever go back to WoW, but may look into Aion or the new Star Wars MMO when they come out. -
Hehe i know that feeling, my first character (and actually my main raiding character) is a lock
Ive got about 4 lvl 80 characters all of them decently gearedOne for raiding, one for arena (2.2k rated
), a healer and a melee one.
I prefer the cartoonish graphics of WoW thats why i cant see me playing another mmo for now.
But ive started getting bored of mmo's a bit so im taking a few breaks (for 1-3months) every now and then, especially summers -

The one game I really despise is Mushihimesama. This game by far takes the cake as the hardest game in arcade shooter history. Mushihimesama was so ridiculously hard to beat, even with a modern computer and keyboard. The bosses fire so many bullets at you that it covers the entire screen and it still mystifies me on how some people manage to survive the first wave moreso defeat the boss.

WoW, it is cocaine for kids, 11 million subscribers x $15/month = just wrong

Atleast that money is going towards R&D for Starcraft 2.

Diablo 2. It almost sucked my mind. After three days in a row stopping only for food, bathroom and naps, I had to call my friends to come over and take me off home, because I just couldn't stop playing.

Morrowind. Have to explore every game paths just to offer myself some closure from it.

Runescape...omg.
There is nothing more mind-numbing that leveling up wood, and fire making, and cooking...all just so you can go on a quest that requires you to cook like 1 thing or chop down 1 tree...
By the time I hit high enough levels in everything to go on the quests I was so sick of the game I just quit. -
Runescape again. So many bad memories....like the time I spent a week in the chicken farm to get my prayer up to 40.....or the time I spent like 4 days constantly chopping willow logs to get my woodcutting skills high enough to cut yew.....or the constant lobster fishing followed by the constant lobster cooking.....the game is almost the epitome of grinding

Maple Story explains itself, the true grinders game...

COUNTER-STRIKE.
GOD I hate that game SOOO much. -
I hated TES4: Oblivion after a while. Never played the campaign.

I hate combat arms yet i cant stop playing it...i dont quit because im a competitive person
-
Id have to say oblivion, i spent so long grinding and doing side quests that by the time i started the main quest it wasnt challanging anymore......and got very boring...but i still go back to it....i havent finished it and that annoys me.....but everytime i go back to it and realise i have to go to another city and close another stupid oblivion gate, i turn the game off.....ahhhhh why...why the gates.......nooooooo
-
Haha, I always do the main quest first in Oblivion just to get he stupid gates off the map.
-
I mean, is the campaign any good? I sold the game quickly after doing some side quests because I thought it to be repetitive.

also have many of the other really hard shumps, was the first type of games I tracked down when I built my arcade. -

They had a high score competition for that game a couple months ago at byoac and I played like 2 lives and was like haha yeah right im not putting myself through this.
The sad thing about that game is after trying so hard for so long I got to the boss finally and I was good enough at the game that he could not kill me, but I also could not kill him. Apparently you need a hidden weapon to injure him and I didnt have it. Never played the game since. -
Jurassic Park 1 & 2 on the SNES. Anyone remember these? God they were frustratingly difficult?! Well, the first one not so bad. Basically started off aimlessly running around and getting eaten by raptors. You don't really get any info on what to do at the start, you just appear in the jungle, and thats it. Eventually bought a magazine with a walkthrough, stayed up pretty late with a friend, got close to the end, then the SNES locked up... So annoyed!!! Never went back to it. Shame really.
The second one was the side scrolling shooter, very hard. Kept getting pissed off and throwing the controller down in disgust and walking away. Only to come back to it a couple of hours later to have another go. Never got very far in it, and for that reason to this day I hate it
On that note, Im tempted to go fish out the SNES and have another go now... Can't be that hard can it..? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I dont remember the snes ones too well, but that was actually another one of those sega cd games that sucked.
It was a point & click rpg type game and it had a time limit to beat, and I always got to one part of the game where I had to find a certain item and never could find it and died. -
Good old Sega CD days. Never actually got to play with one. Sounds like they were fairly average at best!

sega cd was interesting, it had one of the best sonic games of all time though.
Sonic CD is just pure awesome.
Atleast I never got the 32X, I think that one bombed hard and never really had any notable games. -
for the most recent i have to say the new prince of persia. you have to collect orbs to unlock new areas so the game can progress, oh how i hate those orbs
-
Maple Story, played it due to peer pressure. Never liked it though.

WOW - everyone raves about it, i played it and it's just not fun at all.

To the op yeah i played sewer shark quite some too and that game really stank yeah hard as nails too so unforgiving blasting rats and scorpions and crashing and burning while that annoying guy talks thrash to you.
Sega cd/mega cd had some very cool games imo I liked the batman game, battle corps, soulforge(?), Groundzero texas (imo it was awesome one of the best fmv games), Yumemi mystery mansion (great adventure game), Double switch was half decent looked great but again it was quite tough later on.
Eternal champions on the sega cd was for the time really cool too and ofcourse SILPHEED awesome game.
Oh and the 32x had some really cool games too! (yeah I bought one back in the day cause I didnt have enough money at first for a saturn) polygon racers/fighters virtua fighter/racing, kolibri, chaotix, and a space shooter which I forgot the name of was awesome you could fly with this space ship put up shields and fly thru some huge enemy ships for massive damage!
The sega cd/32x combo gave birth to some really good looking fmv games (sega cd32x, got that jamaican "lightgun" zombie killer game) for that time.
Hmmm I must say Cosmic Carnage was awful... got that game for Sinterklaas (dutch santa claus) and began playing it that evening and within a couple of hours I was sick of it awful awful game still I played it quite a bit. -

Many games like Dungeon Keeper II, Fallout 1&2, Deus Ex, Warcraft III, Diablo II.....and soon Diablo III I think

Counter Strike Source, so freaking boring and played out , but it kept me hooked for years.
-
i would have to vote for Diablo2, and counterstrike... both games are super addicting, diablo2 i will never play again (i will play diablo 3 lol) since i remember actually skipping school just to keep playing it and dying a little inside every time i heard that little idiot necromancer dying sound lol
Counterstrike i still love to play once in a while, but man oh man, if you dont play often, when i log in and within the first 2 seconds and get just annialated by some 13 year old who is hacking or just spends WAY too much time playing it, thats when it becomes one of "those" games that i play and play and play just to beat said 13 year old and when im done i realize... wow, that took me 5 hours to just beat a kid lol -
My parents would have to literally turn off the circuit breakers that power the computer room to force me off of the computer... Yeah it REALLY was that bad.
Now I wouldn't mind wasting my life if the game was FUN, but GamingACU and Tevash nailed how TERRIBLE it is. Those 17 hours that I would waste playing the game... Yeah the entire time I would be grinding to level up, gain money, etc. It was even boringer than watching grass grow, and yet I kept playing it. Thankfully the $20 that I paid to be a "member" only lasted for 4 months, and my parents wouldn't allow me to renew it. I tried playing on the free servers for a week after the membership ended. Couldn't do ANYTHING. I quit, and never looked back again.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we play FPS and not MMO.
In FPS, you log on, own 12 year olds halfway across the country, gloat at them, get owned in return, start a friendly grudge, own them back, laugh at all the fun you had, then log off with a smile on your face and call it a fun day.
In MMO, you log on, travel around a really big world, grind for long hours hoping to get a rare item, wade through laggy towns full of AFK merchants, do boring quests where you just kill a bunch of monsters for a pointless storyline with a party of Brazilians or Russians that can't speak English, grind some more just to get lvl 85, repeat all of the above, then log off and feel that your day was incomplete. -
The newer version of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor. Buggy as hell but if it's a D&D game I must play it.
-
-
There are some games out there. Even for the Iphone/touch, facebook. That were just made to get you hooked like a zombie. And earn a quick buck.
-
I would have to say runescape. That game has the worst grinding system of any game I've ever played. Yet, I just had to play it so that I could be better than all the other poor saps who were wasting their time with me.
-
Your FPS take is funny. Its fun as hell even if i keep getting owned. But that one time(atleast for me
)i kill someone eles i have a big grin on my face only to be killed secs later. which just makes me laugh knowing i suck so hard core.
as for MMO i play guild wars for an hour or so a night and enjoy it. Control people!!! Letting a game take over your life is sad tbh. -
. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever played a game for 17 hours straight.
Anyways, Runescape is the game that I hated. I tried to quit a few times until one day, when I realized how completely repetitive and boring it was.
Since then I have never touched another MMO. -
Left 4 Dead, ever since that I purchased the game (December 12th) until now, I have played ~1,150 hours, with friends most of the time.
My favorite game mode is Campaign, especially when playing with the 3 of my friends that are in my team, it is a fun festival because we chat, talk and laugh while playing, while enjoying the game.
Left 4 Dead has been a really entertaining experience for me so far, I am looking forward to Left 4 Dead 2 to have more fun.
That one game you really hate....
