Ive been looking at a sony fz with 8400m gt. My concern is that i want to be able to play games for 3 years until i buy a new laptop. Does the 8400m gt have the capabilities to play high end games of the future, even if only on the lowest settings?
The 8600m gt card is also an option with dell but is more expensive i think. Do you think i can get by with the 8400 or should i fork over the money for the 8600? Thanks for your help!!

Ya, i think it will last for more than 3 years if the setting is on lowest of low. Depends on whether u like eye candy over game experience or not.

Just as long as i can play games without incredible lagging is fine with me. Right now im ashamed to be running an intel 85825 graphics card with like 64mb. Its an old notebook but it still runs Age of Empires 3 without problems on low quality. Thanks for the help!

It should be good until that three year point. You probably will have to start running games on low just before that time though. Right now were not really sure but say at 1024x768 it should run all the latest games with eye candy on.

The 8400M GT is a good mid range graphics card, and competes around the same level as the 8600M GS. It should last 3 years, but for the most part, games will have to be played on low quality. The 8400M GT is powerful, but its no powerful enough to run games at high levels for more than a set amount of time. The 8600M GT is also an option, and if you can afford it, when the new Dell machines are released, than it will be the better graphics card.
The 8400m GT, can it stand the test of time?
